GENERAL SUMMARY: 

American Greetings is seeking to add a highly motivated, data-driven, collaborative yet self-reliant individual to join our Asia (Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai) Quality team. This role will report to American Greetings Quality and Process Improvement Director in Shenzhen, China and will work as a key partner with AG sourcing leaders and key supply base partners.  

American Greetings sources $200M USD of materials annually in China and Southeast Asia for delivery to the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Our primary products include Greeting Cards, Gift Packaging, Stationery, Party Goods and other social expression products produced through a variety of automated, semi-automated and manual processes.

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for driving continuous improvement activities in supplier product engineering and process optimization required to meet AG’s quality, capability and delivery requirements. Additionally, the position will require working closely with our Business Units in the US and UK to fine tune product design guidelines aimed at standardizing, simplifying and cost reducing the end product / process..

The selected candidate will drive initiatives aimed at achieving better product quality at a lower cost by developing and evaluating new technologies and materials. With his/her contribution, the sourcing team will have additional data and information to better assess and evaluate incumbent suppliers as well as potential new suppliers within and outside of China.

This role will be based in our Shenzhen, China main office and will require frequent collaboration with American Greeting’s US and UK sourcing offices. Travel within China, SEA and other geographies will be required.

Key Attributes Expected of the Ideal Candidate:

· Required - Fluent in Mandarin and English (verbal and written). Proficiency in Cantonese helpful

· Effective communication and active listening skills - adept in both Eastern and Western cultures

· Ability to use data and consistent reporting to communicate, drive improvement and influence both technical and commercial stakeholders

· Ability to exemplify integrity and influence others with respect to company procedures, ethics, culture and disciplined execution

· Ability to manage his/her workload and deliver on schedule with decreasing dependence upon management to guide/oversee

· Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to break down complex problems, systematically identify root causes and develop sustainable solutions

· Ability to design, implement and manage detailed processes that support the objective of avoiding defects

· Strong attention to detail with superior organizational skills

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

· BS degree in engineering (strongly preferred), supply chain or other relevant disciplines with substantial technical experience may be considered

· At least 6 years of experience in engineering or plant operations. Solid working experience on continuous improvement/Lean/Six Sigma/IE is required

· Experience in working with Western companies and navigating multi-cultural environments

· Experience in managing FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly) approaches

· Proven experience in driving continuous improvement via methodologies such as Kaizen, A3 Case (cost, delivery, quality)

· Tactical experience / understanding of reactionary quality methodologies

· Working knowledge in printing industry process and technologies is a plus
