Position：Housemothers

Superior: Head of Boarding

Merchiston International School, Shenzhen is divided into three boarding houses, Pringle, Chalmers and Rogerson. Students live in the different boarding houses according to their age, and each house is run by a Houseparent with residential academic staff, overseen by the Head of Boarding.  All academic staff play a role in the boarding houses by doing duties in the evenings on a rota plus some weekend activities through the term and medical staff are on site for assistance when required.

We are looking to recruit two energetic and caring individuals to undertake the role of Housemother in Chalmers and Rogerson boarding houses. The Housemothers must be able to prioritise the wellbeing, safety and security of the students and be willing to attend all staff training regarding wellbeing and safeguarding. An approachable, kind, sensitive, empathetic listener and motherly individual who enjoys the company of youngsters with a sense of humour would be suitable. The housemother needs to work as part of a team all pulling together to achieve a happy, well organised boarding house with a firm but fair approach.

This role may suit someone whose family are now older, someone wishing to work with young people or someone thinking of going into teaching or nursing.

The Housemother along with the other residential academic staff will offer support to the Houseparent by performing the following duties:

·         Help provide first rate pastoral care to all the students in the boarding house

·         Ensure that the students are well cared for in matters of personal hygiene, bedding and clothing

·         Oversee that dirty uniform, sports clothes and bedding is sent to the laundry regularly.

·         Check that clothes are named and are in good condition.

·         Ensure that the students are dressed correctly and ready for the School day.

·         Ensure that their bedrooms are clean, tidy and presentable.

·         Ensure the students live a healthy lifestyle and attend all meals and inappropriate food is not kept in their bedrooms.

·         Oversee any snacks for the students in the houses at break time and/or evening time?

·         Attend meetings and training to do with the boarding houses.

·         With assistance from the maintenance and housekeeping departments ensure that repairs are completed in the boarding houses and the presentation of the house is kept in good condition.

·         To liaise along with the houseparent with parents and academic staff with important information regarding students when necessary.

·         To liaise with medical staff when necessary

·         To be a team player within the boarding structure at MIS
