The Chinese Head of Primary School reports to the Founding Executive Principal of the King’s School, Shenzhen International.

Along with the Founding Executive Principal and the International Heads of Section the Chinese Head is responsible for establishing a vibrant, relevant Chinese-UK blended curriculum in the King’s Primary School, ensuring that all Governmental requirements are met according to the license and that the School conforms to the published Aims and Ethos of the King’s Shenzhen International.

This is a Senior Leadership Post and carries a range of responsibilities. The job description which follows provides a broad outline and in no way includes every detail of this this important role.


Responsibilities

1. To help in the acquisition and continued maintenance of the school license and ensuring effective communications with the local education authorities at all times:
- to communicate actively with government departments,
- to establish good government relations,
- to be updated with government policy,
- to feedback national and local policies and requirements so as to ensure overall compliance with regard to school operation.

2. To ensure that the Chinese compulsory curriculum is well-organised delivered and assessed appropriately and to help schedule the daily/weekly programme and the academic timetable.

3. To be co-responsible for the daily teaching management of the teachers to ensure the full implementation of the Chinese curriculum and the overall King’s pedagogy.

4. To help ensure that School meets all requirements for fully trained staff members in relation to safeguarding, child protection and health & safety; to take shared responsibility for pupils, visitors and work colleagues in accordance with King’s requirements, regularly reviewing policies and procedures; to be one of the Designated Safeguarding Officers for the School.

5. To assist in Staff induction and staff development, ensuring especially that all local teachers are suitably trained and qualified.

6. To communicate with Chinese parents as required.

7. To attend and assist in recruiting and marketing events as required, helping to assess applicants (students and their families) with regard to their suitability for the School community.

8. To assist the Founding Executive Principal and International Head of Section to recruit and build a high-quality teaching and operations team, creating a stable and productive collaborative culture with a strong sense of community and common purpose.

9. To work closely with the Founding Executive Principal and the Heads of Sections on the Strategic Development Plan of the School within the overall organisation and maintain the agreed Development Plan.

10. To complete other related tasks assigned by the Founding Executive Principal.


Skills and Experience Requirements

1. Extensive experience in K12 education and as a Principal of a Chinese Primary or Middle School, Vice Principal or Principal of the international department of key public or renowned private international schools; highly skilled in education, teaching and operations management.

2. University graduate; overseas study or teaching management background is preferred.

3. Understanding the purpose behind and the development trends in international education, ideally with experience in international project cooperation between China and foreign countries, and effectively promoting the integration and innovation of a modern Chinese and Western curriculum.

4. To be knowledgeable and up-to-date with regard to domestic Chinese education policies and market development trends.

5. To understand the Aims & Ethos of the King’s School Shenzhen International.

6. Possession of excellent professional qualities including: high level communications skills (preferably in both Chinese and English), critical thinking; keen market insight; analytical ability; a high sense of professional responsibility and pride; the ability to work under pressure

7. To be able to represent the School and make decisions but also to be an effective team player who works constructively in committees and commands appropriate authority among staff.
