GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Avient R&D Engineer - Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belt (BB) is a full time dedicated position responsible for leading complex, high value projects related to SEM Asia Technology. The R&D Engineer - LSS BB will establish, coordinate and provide leadership for assigned Lean Six Sigma projects for SEM Asia Technology within a Business Unit. These projects should be integrated within the Business Unit Strategy’s Lean Six Sigma efforts and meet the guidelines, criteria and metrics established jointly by the Technology Director, Business Unit General Manager and Strategic Portfolio Leader (SPL) and/or Master Black Belt (MBB). The position will require travel of 20 to 30%. 5 weeks’ overseas training will be provided in the first year this BB training program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 60% - Lead Lean Six Sigma projects within the business unit and effectively coordinates these projects with the SPL and/or MBB and other improvement project teams. Project leadership includes identifying opportunities, defining and financially justifying projects, launching project teams, using good project management to manage team activities, leading teams to execute projects with the problem solving methodology, tracking project status and results, removing and elevating project barriers and developing team members. It is also critical to identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals.
• 15% - Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the project goals, objectives and metrics are being met. Provide deployment champion with the results and recommend appropriate corrective action.
• 15% - Participate in the selection of Green Belts, Kaizen Leaders and Yellow Belts/Team Members into the Lean Six Sigma infrastructure and ensure continuing development of their skills. Provide coaching and direction to the Green Belts, Kaizen Leader and Yellow Belts to ensure LSS methodologies are applied and projects are completed successfully.
• 10% - Ensure two way open communication throughout the organization for Lean Six Sigma. This includes keeping the SPL and key stakeholders informed of program status and ensuring coordination of activities between other Black Belts. This also includes capturing project lessons learned that can be reused for other projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master degree or Ph.D in Chemistry / Polymer Science & Technology / Materials Science/ Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Possess in-depth knowledge in formulation work and development related to high performance polymers such as High temperature Polymeric Blends & Alloys, Biopolymers & usage of functional additives e.g. Carbon Nanotube, Non-halogeneated Flame retardents, flow modifier etc.
• Good analytical & scientific skills in development work, self-motivated and resourceful
• Good English and communication skills
• Proactive, willing to take lead of change management and challenges
• Strong influence skills and ability to resolve conflict and manage stakeholder expectations
• Green Belt preferred but not required, has experience or interest in Lean Six Sigma

Required Length & Type of Experience:

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in formulations & compounding knowledge.
