As the Director of Quality and Engineering based in Shenzhen, China, who reports to the COO, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of Quality and Engineers, to work on new product development, product testing and evaluation, production quality controls, supporting customer services, resolving product quality issues, managing suppliers’ quality, and driving continuous quality improvement. You will be responsible for delivering and communicating a strategy to your team that focuses on purpose, shared vision, and goals. You will develop an actionable goal commitment strategy that ensures the goals set for the quality & engineering organization are achieved. You will have a proven ability to assess situations and guide teams toward both short-term and longer-term systemic changes. In this role, you will experience a wide range of problem-solving situations, strategic to real-time, requiring extensive use of data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities    

In line with the strategy and direction of the company, you will:    

● Lead the QA/Inspection function, Quality Engineering, and Product Engineering team. 

● Drive a high performing culture by managing process adherence.

● Conduct analysis to identify root causes and trends.

● Analyze historical data to build quality improvement initiatives and drive quality strategies across the network to reduce the quality claims at consumers.

● Liaise with others to calibrate audits, implement best practices and drive performance improvements.

● Monitor and report on quality metrics and own quality & engineering team weekly, monthly and quarterly reviews reports.  

● Partner with Operations and HR to ensure inspectors are constantly evolving, learning and improving.

● Manage and develop your team through insightful communications, regular 1:1’s, team meetings and reward and recognition.

● Maintain a positive and professional demeanor and effectively managing sensitive issues.

● Embrace constant change with flexibility and good grace which demands strong deliverables.

● Maintain and promote a positive work environment, promote transparency.

● Perform other responsibilities delegated to you by the COO or head office.

Required Skills/Knowledge

● Bachelor or above degree required preferably in engineering or quality

● Chinese and excellent level of English is mandatory.

● Creative thinker who can imagine and implement projects/initiatives.

● Strong technical knowledge about safety, regulatory, and quality requirements of wide range of consumer products, that includes safety listing, regulations and licensing in North America and Europe markets, such as UL/ETL, FCC, DOE, CEC, CA Prop 65, FDA, CE, REACH, RoHS, LFGB, Bluetooth, HDMI, etc..

● Team player who is experienced working at the manager level and can effectively collaborate with business units and functional partners such as Product Development, Purchasing, Creative, HR, Finance, etc.

● Strategic mindset and problem-solving skills, able to understand business needs, managing current business while imagining and implementing our next generation business.

● Ability to implement best practices and use continuous improvement methods.

● Strong solutions focus and be comfortable working in a fast changing environment.

● Strong desire to innovate and insist on the best.

● Good negotiation and good reasoning skills.

Experience

● 10+ years of management experience within quality and engineering in a finished goods company with e-commerce footprint.

● Self-starter capable of taking initiative and working with minimal direction.

● Previous experience as a people manager.
