General Responsibilities:

Based out of Belkin's Shenzhen, China office, the Soft Goods Developer is responsible for taking the concept designs developed by the Industrial Designer into sampling and production stages while maintaining design intent, quality, schedule, and cost targets. Working closely with Product Managers, Program Managers, Industrial Designers, Sourcing Specialists, Quality Engineers, and various suppliers, The Soft Goods Developer will deliver various C&S and Hybrid cases for tablet and mobile phone. The Soft Goods Developer must possess technical background and needs to be able to provide solutions in the area of DFM (Design For Manufacturability), material selection, manufacturing process, and reliability assurance


Specific Responsibilities:

? Review Industrial Design Techkits and provide DFM feedback
? Build handmade prototypes to prove design concepts
? Develop golden samples and drive sample approval process
? Drive fixtures and tooling development
? Review and approve C&S components as well as injection molded plastic components
? Review and approve pilot production line and samples
? Work with Quality team to eliminate all reliability risks prior to production
? Provide project status reports to Program Manager for real time visibility
? Responsible for coordinating quotation packages
? Responsible for driving testing and verification of product requirements
? Monitor industry trend and feed new design, materials, and manufacturing technology options to the Industrial Design team
? Manage ECO updates through the use of Agile (PLM).
? Proactively seeks for cost reduction opportunities. Propose, design, and phase-in change plans
? There is approximately a 40% domestic (Southern China) travel required.
? Occasional travel to US and Hong Kong required


Education and Experience Requirements:

? BS/BA degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or other related degrees
? Minimum 5 years of experience in Cut&Sew products in the Sporting Goods, Health and Medical, School and/or Office, Luggage, and Travel Goods or other related Industries
? Must have strong knowledge in Textile and Leather materials as well as the decorative treatment processes
? Strong knowledge in C&S product assembly constructions, and manufacturing techniques
? Strong knowledge in variety of Cut&Sew manufacturing equipment
? Solid understanding of industry test protocols
? At least 3 years of Adobe Illustrator experience must.
? 3D design experience desired, but not a must
? Injection molding, die casting, and various bonding process experience highly desired
? Fast paced high volume manufacturing experience
? Good problem solving skills especially in relation to trouble shooting aesthetic defects, raw material defects, design issues, and processing issues, etc.
? Experience working with cross-functional teams managing multiple projects concurrently.
? Must be able to analyze BOM cost
? Ability to communicate effectively in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
? Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint experience a must.
