Objective

Provide support to the General Counsel. To take ownership of standard and straightforward matters. Providing pragmatic and commercially-focused legal advice. Scope of work will include a wide range of business-to-business issues including the drafting and negotiating of commercial agreements and miscellaneous corporate matters. Requires a confident, organised, focused and results-oriented lawyer. Must have common sense, strong inter-personal skills and commercial understanding. This individual will work closely with the commercial function, as well as other teams such as finance, team managers, and sales; as such they will be fully integrated into the heart of the organisation. This is an extremely pro-active hands-on role that will suit a junior commercial lawyer who enjoys a challenge, is looking for international experience and the next step up in their career

Key Accountabilities

- Providing legal advice and support to the General Counsel and client team managers, on a wide range of PRC company matters and commercial legal issues.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, leases, NDA and various T&C with suppliers and clients.
- Filing and keeping legal database up to date and management informed.
- Instructing and managing external PRC counsel.
- Ensuring the provision of effective and cost-efficient legal advice on all issues to the business transactions carried by the company.

- Service Levels (department) - accessibility, turnaround/process efficiency, teamwork / morale;
- Service Levels (internal and external customers) - results, overall satisfaction;
- Efficiency - cost of legal services, Budget performance

Required Qualifications, Experience & Key Skills

Knowledge & Experience
- Circa 3 to 5 years Chinese law post-qualification experience, with a background in general commercial law
- In-house experience is an advantage but not essential, however, the desire to work in a commercial environment is essential
- Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to deal confidently and effectively at all levels of the business, which encompasses a variety of cultures and working practices
- A self-starter who is both dynamic and proactive, able to "hit the ground running", who is capable of working autonomously on their own initiative
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, in particular the ability to understand what is actually being said (in circumstances in which significant language and cultural barriers may exist)
- Commercially minded, solutions driven and a team player
- A highly flexible approach is necessary to meet the changing priorities of the business and the Legal Department
- Experience of working in supply chain management / manufacturing is desirable
- Experience of working in Asia is advantageous.
- Mandarin and English are essential.
