First Position Job Description for Category Manager
Essential Responsibilities:
1,Creates and develops a strategic global sourcing plan that fosters the highest level of commitment to continuous improvement in product quality, cost, and delivery within the category assigned, for the Professional Division.
2,Plans and directs the activities of the supplier so that maximum, measurable results are achieved for all Harman Professional Business Units
3,Ensure high spend compliance through preferred suppliers based on category requirements.
4,Serves as the principal authority and liaison for the company with suppliers on business objectives in line with corporate procurement
5,Builds and manages base line spend (history and forecast) date for Harman Professional for their category. Performs operational review of contract performance and spending for categories.
6,Develops supplier metrics such as spend/savings Tracker, KPI's, SLA, etc., monitors and reports on supplier performance criteria.
7, Ensures that a quality system is in place at each supplier's manufacturing site. Audits supplier costs, financial performance, and manufacturing and technical capabilities.
8,Ensures supplier's operating principles meet the company's requirements and enhance the supplier's costs, financial performance and manufacturing and technical capabilities.
9,Directs the negotiations of major contracts involving the assigned commodities.
10,Coordinates efforts with engineering and quality personnel in developing supplier's capabilities to produce critical components. Approves product design changes that require tooling expenditures. Presents selected supplier in management reviews.
11,Maintains constant communication with suppliers to make sure there is full understanding of the company's requirements and the supplier's capabilities and to identify process and product improvement opportunities.
12,Monitors category trends and conducts market research/benchmarking as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
1,Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Materials, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Management or a related field, and 7+ years of sourcing and purchasing materials within the category.
2,CPSM or CPM Certification preferred.
3,Engineering Degree and PMP Certification a plus
4,Demonstrated experience in procurement problem solving, negotiating, and contract management.
5,Ability to implement sourcing strategies to control the company's purchased material or service costs and to assure an adequate source of service and supply. Manage supplier's cost, quality and delivery performance.
6,Knowledge and participation in Six Sigma activities, including participation in Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and other continuous improvement activities.
7,Excellent verbal, organization and written communication skills.
8,Experience working with process improvement methodologies.
9,Proficient in computer use (MS Word, Excel, Project, Outlook and SAP).
10,Ability to work in a metrics-driven, fast-paced and dynamic environment.
11,Proactive and aggressive in solving problems, recognizing and taking action on opportunities and developing a team environment to understand and execute company-wide needs in regards to material supply.
12,Maintain and promote sound relationships with customers, suppliers and business community.
Desired Characteristics:
1,Ability to handle a variety of projects at the same time.
2,Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
3,Ability to develop and populate reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
4,Six-Sigma training with Green Belt Certification preferred.
5,Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, customers, and company employees. Ensure communication with business owners is consistent, clear, timely, helpful and productive.
6,Six-Sigma training with Green Belt Certification preferred.
7,APICS Certification plus.
Eligibility Requirements:
1,Strong English communications required.

Second Position Job Description for Category Manager
Role Description
· Individual contributor role. Responsible to manage and make critical decisions on all aspects of supplier relationship including contracts, commercial/pricing, supply assurance and conflict resolution.
· Develop and execute sub-category strategies through alignment with Harman International global category manager, business units, engineering, quality, manufacturing activities. Requires knowledge of the business units technology and product roadmaps and specific expertise in procurement and manufacturing cost structure.
· The role requires a sophisticated level of relationship management interfacing with global suppliers, requiring balancing of interests to maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
· Coordination of engagement between procurement, supply chain functions and senior stake holders within the BU. This person will be an escalation/communication point for Harman International and the supply partner.
Roles & Responsibilities
· Align sub-category strategy with overall category strategy, supply chain and business requirements
· Establish consistent commercial terms/conditions and present a single unified Harman International interface to the supply base
· Execute effective supplier negotiations and event driven cost reductions to meet annual cost reduction goals
· Drive supplier rationalization strategy to maximize category leverage
· Manage the bid and quote process
· Work with supply base to establish robust quality operating systems to support “zero defect” culture
· Serve as a point of contact for BU sourcing issues and opportunities related to category management
· Establish goals, improvement plans, business reviews and monthly reporting related to areas of responsibility
