About the role

The Senior Marketing Manager, Old Navy China will drive the execution of the Old Navy brand in China. The successful applicant will lead the integration and implementation of the Global Old Navy Brand Marketing standards. The qualified applicant will be required to understand the target customer in Greater China, and have the ability to discern what types of strategies and communication will be relevant and motivating to them, balancing the global brand positioning and presentation, with the needs of the local market. They will partner with the domestic Marketing and Creative Services teams, the Greater China VP and General Manager, the Global Marketing team, in-country Marketing Agencies, Field, Production and Visual Merchandising teams, and other external agencies as appropriate.

What you'll do

  • Partner with Old Navy Global Marketing to influence and execute the Annual marketing plan. Develop tactics to bring the store launch and seasonal plans to life, incorporating both in-store and out-of-store consumer touch points (customer engagement activities, advertising, media plan, in-store signage, windows messaging, social, digital, PR, Promotional Events and traffic driving tactics).
  • Partners with the International Marketing Team to develop processes for management and use of globally created assets.
  • Leads the Old Navy Marketing Team in China to bring solid execution with the Old Navy Global Marketing plan.
  • Partners with and manages agencies on the development and execution of media plans, including production/creative services (e.g. print production, outdoor production), media seasonal PR needs, and helping with event execution.
  • Responsible for working with Marketing team and individual mall/store landlords for securing support (e.g. ad space or promotional activity) for new stores.
  • Responsible for understanding the target customer in Greater China and providing this insight to the Global team so effective briefs can be created for both Internal and External partners.
  • Leads gathering, development and sharing of hindsight learning (consumer and financial) to inform future planning, especially for promotional activity with Global Old Navy Marketing Team.
  • Develops briefs, creates timelines and manages projects to deliver the marketing plan.
  • Responsible for managing in-market timelines on all marketing projects to ensure coordination and adherence.
  • Responsible for working with internal teams and external agencies on execution of store hoardings prior to their openings.
  • Responsible for coordinating agency and partners in executing all production needs for support of new store opening marketing activities (e.g. production of materials etc) (Agency Briefs are developed in conjunction with Global Team).
  • Acts as a marketing information conduit for the in-market team and Global team(s), often times gathering pertinent creative (copy and or visuals) for use in in-market produced materials.
  • Works with Director of Old Navy International on the execution of the China marketing budget. Directly responsible for managing the accounts payable process for marketing including developing of purchase orders, working with agencies and internal finance to ensure payment on timely basis. Provides monthly forecast and update to Global Marketing team and Finance.
  • Acts as key liaison with Legal team to ensure all marketing materials are approved, and brand names, tag lines, collection names correctly trademarked where appropriate.
  • Required to be conversant in daily sales performance in order to be able to act quickly if and when course-correction may be required.
  • Supports in-market team for store openings as necessary.

  • Relationships: Proven experience and ability to work cross-functionally, especially with Global Creative organizations.
  • Intellectual Horsepower: Ability to apply strategic thinking to Brand Marketing.
  • Cultural: An ability to interact with people in different cultures in a way that promotes understanding, and is respectful and effective.
  • Language: Chinese (mandarin) language and/or knowledge of Chinese culture and consumer behavior is a must.
  • Passion: For Retail!
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Around 10 years of brand management, consumer or retail marketingexperience, preferably in apparel, fashion, consumer packaged goods, retail orcosmetics.
