The Mechanical Category Manager is responsible for the execution of sourcing strategies to leverage relationships within and across the business enterprise to achieve best total value to ARRIS. Includes Category and or Commodity Management strategy recommendation and execution, supplier relationship management, risk management and supply base performance management. Individual is responsible for the complete range of sourcing activities including spend analysis, strategy formulation, and supplier quality / performance within a matrix driven organization. The Category Manager is supervised by an experienced Global Category Leader, but is expected to perform complex and time sensitive tasks with a high degree of skill. The successful candidate possesses deep technical knowledge, skill in procurement, business acumen and high ethical standards.

Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Category Manager may be responsible for managing annual spend of approximately $200M:

Strategic responsibilities include:

Recognized as subject matter expert (SME) for Mechanical Components.

Executes Global Procurement Sourcing and Procurement strategy.

Build cost models to assess commodity strategies and to understand cost drivers.

Analyze global material acquisition and develop strategic recommendations for maximizing efficiencies and maintaining a high quality of customer service.

Demonstrate accountability and knowledge on competitor analysis, market, benchmarks, legislation and drivers of their commodities.

Facilitate supplier engagement to achieve business objectives including pricing, supply assurance, and risk management with the further objective of culminating in long-term agreements with strategic suppliers.

Develop global category strategy recommendations with aggressive targets aligned with global commodity management and business needs, and challenge and review it on a regular basis with ARRIS internal stakeholders.

Manages the relationship with key category suppliers who have been selected.

Participate in the development of the Global Category Strategy plan (2 & 5 year plans)

Drives the source selection process for NPI programs, using existing preferred suppliers and/or new technology leaders. Prepare evaluations for senior team to justify supplier selections.

Leads supplier engagements to achieve corporate objectives in commercial agreements such as Commercial Supplier Agreement.

Develop and provide expert-level category knowledge, with knowledge of the supply base and global market (prices and practices)

Tactical responsibilities include:

Lead and manage the key procurement drivers: Supplier performance – at or above expectation across balanced scorecard - Cost, Quality, Supply Assurance, and Timely Access to Technology.

Conduct supplier engagements to achieve business objectives including pricing, supply assurance, and risk management.

Manage ARRIS supplier engagements for key products from cradle to grave.

Conduct quarterly business and performance reviews with suppliers to improve performance to standards.

Deep and current understanding of global supply/commodity markets and leveraging Sourcing methodologies to drive global strategies.

Responsible for end to end management of the assigned category; including category strategy execution, category planning, key projects, category process and policies and managing spend and savings targets for the category

Lead global category supplier relationships and sourcing opportunities; including methodologies and tactics to achieve business objectives including in the areas of price, supply continuity and risk management.

Execute global and/or local strategies, working towards the development and management of a strategic sourcing pipeline.

Provides input to GPC for development of budget and KPIs

Basic/Required:

BS (in Mechanical Engineering or Business or Supply Chain Management preferred)

Minimum 7 years of direct experience managing mechanical suppliers

Demonstrated experience in managing cost reductions and material availability

Demonstrated supplier engagement skills and improving lead-time while developing a collaborative relationship with suppliers

Must be able to construct value stream industry maps and utilize advance financial techniques.

Must be able to effectively communicate in Mandarin both verbally and written.

Must be able to effectively communicate in English both verbally and written.

Desired Characteristics

The ideal individuals will have a focus on any of the following: CNC machined parts, sheet metal, enclosures, casings, jigs, tooling, fixtures, injection molding, plastic parts, die-casting and hardware.

Skilled in financial analysis, project management, negotiation techniques and Supply Chain.

Self-starter with high degree of motivation who can operate with minimal supervision.

Curiosity to learn yet very focused on essential activities as agreed with management. A closer that gets the job done.

CPSM credentials (strongly desirable)
