High Level Overview:

We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer Technical Team Leader (TTL) with extensive technical capability to manage cost down projects for mechanical parts. Sonos has a dedicated Continuing and Sustaining engineering (CaSE) team chartered to improving the gross margin of our products as part of an overall company strategy. The CaSE team’s role is to drive design or manufacturing process changes which will have a significant effect on product COGM. Because custom mechanical parts are a significant proportion of our product BOMs you, as TTL, will be responsible for the managing, execution and providing direction to our mechanical part suppliers to reduce component cost.

This is a multifaceted role - you will be asked to directly support mechanical engineering activity related to CaSE projects. Mechanical challenges include: keeping up with ever-expanding manufacturing volumes, finding and testing ideas for product improvements, efforts to improve yields, improving product reliability, and enhancing manufacturing reproducibility.

Responsibilities:

* Manage cost down activities for mechanical components at our suppliers leading project teams through all phases of component qualification.

* Setting up project schedules and key milestones
* Assembling focused agile project teams
* Working with project teams to generate qualification criteria (test requirements)
* Supplier Visits - Expect 30% travel, China
* Managing CM and documentation requirements
* Providing technical direction and input when necessary
* Managing project budgets

* You will have project details at your fingertips for reporting at the senior management level thus enabling effective communication of project status at executive level.
* Communicate with the "team" to ensure everyone has specific direction, goals, knowledge of what’s happening around them, and their impact on the program. Since you will be measuring your success by how quickly we execute cost-down projects, your ability to influence others, including suppliers and have then deliver is vital.
* Ensure that costs and labor are managed and measured such that ROI forecasts are spot-on and that project roll-ups are accurate.
* Generate and execute validation test plans to qualify new process changes, use of alternative components and suppliers, and/or changes to product design.
* Prescribe and conduct statistical analyses such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to find root cause of in-field and production line failures.
* Collaborate with Production Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Sourcing

. teams to identify design weaknesses, opportunities to increase manufacturing yields, and ways to reduce BOM costs.
* Provide "lessons-learned" feedback to the Product Development team to ensure the next generation of Sonos product is the best it can be.

Qualifications:

* Ability to lead by influence in a cross-functional, global environment.
* Experience and capability in project budgets, planning and timely execution.
* Ability to make technical judgements along with test and process engineering in order to guide teams and team members toward prompt and effective decisions.
* Direct experience either designing or working to manufacture highly complex products
* Proven Mechanical Engineering skills (7+ years), preferably in product development, manufacturing of consumer electronics, and/or production quality control.
* Depth of experience in the following areas is considered highly desirable:

* Material Science
* Cosmetic and functional finishes
* Manufacturing, assembly and processing techniques for consumer electronics - Injection Molding, Forming/Stamping, Casting, Extrusions, Machining, Welding, etc.
* Tooling and molding
* Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
* Tolerance Stack-up analysis

* Proficiency with 3D (dimensional )parametric CAD and FEA(Finite Element Analysis) analysis3 tools (preferably NX and Pro-E).
* Exceptional trouble-shooting skills are required. Should be able to analyze and trouble-shoot on both paper and via hands-on work.
* Experience with data collection and familiarity with statistical analysis methods.
