Director of Software
   We are looking for a Director of Software to lead our team of mobile, cloud backend, embedded Linux, and robotics engineers. Managing the team and riding herd over the diverse array of technical challenges will never be boring.
The tech side: You will lead our efforts to develop production-quality code that runs on the robot as well as the cloud. Generalists will thrive in this role. We are looking for a leader who understands how firmware, high level algorithms, web infrastructure, and mobile apps come together to create a complete product. As we move to production and rollout, you will help us scale the technical infrastructure to be ready for tens of thousands of robots rapidly coming online.
The people side: This is a dynamic environment and are working to successfully deliver a home robot to consumers under tight deadlines and cost constraints. The crucial challenge will be balancing your enthusiasm for rolling up your sleeves and solving day-to-day issues while simultaneously maintaining a longer, more broad product and company perspective.
Responsibilities:
Directly manage our growing software team of 5-10 people
Assess engineering team needs, build, and execute on a hiring plan
Own project management (both schedule and staff assignments) and meeting of milestone goals
Oversee the architecture and development of a scalable software system, including cloud backend and an ARM embedded Linux firmware system that requires over the air updates
Research, recommend, and implement new tools, techniques, and procedures
Develop, train, and mentor software engineering staff
Drive development processes to meet aggressive release schedules
Review and contribute to code, design, and architecture decisions with team and propose changes and improvements to promote scalable, reliable, and maintainable technologies

Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications:
10+ years of developing and shipping production quality software
5+ years leading engineering teams including building long-term product roadmaps, team member tasking, performance management, and career development of staff
Experience building cohesive teams. This means: sourcing, recruiting, interviewing, and closing exceptional engineers.
Strong communication and analytical skills
Proven track record of delivering projects, hands-on with writing code and understanding technologies
BS or MS degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Experience with products that combine hardware and software, or that involved substantial video streaming and analytics preferred
Comfortable with Agile methodologies, cloud/mobile, and embedded development
Experience with APIs and RESTful services
Experience with the broad ecosystem of frameworks and tools that enable web frontend development (such as jQuery, React, AngularJS, Backbone, or Ember)
Experience with development tools such as AWS, Vagrant, Docker, and Ansible
Nice-to-haves:
Familiarity with statistical robotics, machine vision, or machine learning algorithms
Familiarity with ROS
Experience with embedded Linux software development and ARM processors, low-level driver development, and performance optimization
Experience with Python, JavaScript, C++ programming
Experience with iOS and Android app development
Experience with robotics projects
