Role Summary/Purpose

Manage the Whatman Qualitative Filter Paper range and related private label products within the Consumables Lab Filtration Segment . Managing the product range inlcudes having a deep knowledge of the target market, its size, trends and needs. The goal for the function is to set the strategic direction, develop the new products needed to drive the business and to manage the existing product ranges over its life cycle in a manner that maximizes the overall return/profit to the Company.


Essential Responsibilities

Responsibility Areas • The management of the Qualitative Filter Paper product range over its life cycle within the Lab Filtration Segment of the Consumables P&L in a manner that maximizes the overall return/profit to the company, within the context of company, business area and marketing plans. • Lead the commercial input to the product development process once the product definition is approved. • Manages all aspects of the product (s) life cycle starting with the detailed planning until the product is terminated. • Strategic and tactical supply management of existing products to market for multiple customers and applications. • Managing Platform Products fully recognizing the company benefit that can be obtained by facilitating the use of these for applications in other global business areas. • Maximizing the company profit over the product (s) entire life cycle. • Management of the cross-functional interface with product development and manufacturing. Essential Functions • Organize and deliver the commercialization activity required to ensure readiness for sale and use including registration, labeling, legal and safety requirements, storage, logistics, technical content of databases and web, QC, and after sales support preparation. Ensure consistency of standards and best practice with other business areas. • Lead the commercial input to the product development process once the product definition is approved. • Prepare and implementing product launch plans in accordance with plan commitments. • Monitor and exploit the progress of the product/product group in the product life cycle. Investigating, proposing and delivering appropriate action to manage the product in accordance with business goals, including product launches and deletions • Collaborate with product development, customer support, manufacturing, purchasing, distribution and other support functions to ensure that product(s) are efficiently supplied through the marketing and sales channels. • Management of the cross-functional interface with product development and manufacturing that secures the development and delivery of market and customer requirements ensuring meeting financial performance levels for the product range(s). • Manage and maintain the integrity of the commercial product information held within IT systems/databases. • Monitor the financial budget and expenditure for the product range(s) on product management activity. Implement corrective action to manage variances. • Suggest improvements of working procedures and process tools. Take on project assignments to drive and implement approved changes of processes and tools. • Upon assignment lead and coordinate regional and central joint strategic and marketing tactical plans for the Whatman Qualitative Filter Paper product range. Support within China Team (In China for China) • Provide leadership to the China team to maintain focus on P&L goal and objectives. • Represent the Consumables P&L interests within China and work with the Regional Chinese team to implement P&L strategies and tactics. • Provide local technical and marketing support to the Regional China Team where required. • Work with the local China sales teams to identify market trends and opportunities within China for the complete Consumables portfolio. • Coordinate with local manufacturing to insure product delivery and quality standards are maintained.


Qualifications/Requirements

• BA/BSc; Marketing or Science based.• Proven experience in a Life Sciences based business, including solid experience in marketing or product management.• Good computer skills – experience in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes.• Good inter-personal and communication skills, plus experience of using these skills to participate in and influence cross-functional teams.• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Chinese.• Working knowledge of CECOR and Marketing Blueprint.


Desired Characteristics

• MBA or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field. • Deep product management / marketing expertise, including market trends / analysis, NPI process, product roadmap development, product life-cycle management• Proven ability to work globally• Proven ability to influence and negotiate internally and with customers• Experience with multi-channel strategy and selling through distributors • Prior experience in a leadership role with direct reports
