Core responsibility
The Director of Admissions reports to the Director General and has overall responsibility for student admissions and enrolment for the school.
We seek an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with students, faculty, parents and staff, and has the proven capacity to provide the leadership skills required to successfully implement the schools’ student admissions policy.
Demands of the position
The Director of Admissions will have a UWC background and preferably significant experience in college/university admissions or related fields.
In addition the successful candidate will possess the following:
-Experience with the IB Diploma Programme both as a teacher and as a leader/ manager.
-Experience in managing all aspects of best practice relating to student admissions, including the interview process.
-An ability to motivate staff and the interpersonal skills required to listen and communicate effectively with a range of constituents (the academic leadership of the school, parents, faculty and students).
-A proven track record of successful team leadership based on participatory decision making.
-Proven confident and engaging presentation skills.
-Demonstrated ability to design and implement a strategic plan, and manage priorities and deadlines effectively, particularly during periods of change and transition.
-Understanding of international education, the IB Diploma Programme, and UWC in particular.
-An organized, focused and goal-orientated personality capable of innovative forward- thinking.
-High levels of personal integrity.
-An understanding of the budgetary process and financial management within a school.
-An ability to generate ideas and develop them into reality.
-The capacity for creative thinking and for flexible responses to problem solving.
-A willingness and ability to take independent decisions when needed.
-Knowledge of Mandarin would be an asset.
-Demonstrable understanding of ethical and reputational issues.
-Ability to operate effectively and sensitively in a cross-cultural work-place environment.
-Degree level education.
-Experience in College Counselling would be an asset.
-High levels of computer literacy. Ability to effectively use databases essential. Knowledge of MS Office, FileMaker Pro Software knowledge a plus
-Good health, physical stamina, fitness, and vitality.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Director of Admissions will hold direct responsibility for the Admissions Office and for managing the work of admissions and communications personnel. The Director of Admissions will assist the Director General in implementing the school’s admissions policy.
The Director of Admissions will:
-Be a member of the UWC China National Committee’s student selection committee.
-Together with the Director General, help recruit, retain and evaluate the performance of other Admissions Office staff.
-Organize orientation programme for new colleagues to ensure a seamless integration into the team.
-Set clear boundaries and expectations for team members whilst delegating effectively and allowing the freedom for the team to work effectively.
-Effectively coach and mentor members of the Admissions team.
-Contribute to effective succession planning.
-Support the Director General in student recruiting drives locally, regionally and internationally as required, including but not reserved to: - Acting as the School’s representative at all national student recruitment fairs with which the school registers, and as needed at similar international fairs. -Determining with the Director General on how the school can be better presented and passing on both positive and negative feedback gleaned from parents. - Ensuring that all promotional and admission materials are packaged and delivered to fairs on a timely basis
-Oversee the programme of admission of new students to the school. This includes, but is not limited to: - Managing a system of receiving and responding to inquiries through phone calls, emails, and regular mail correspondence. - Conducting applicant interviews and tours of the school with prospective families in order to evaluate the students’ interest, needs, motivation and general fit for a UWC education. - Administer the needs based scholarship programme for selected students.
-Collaborate with the Development Office’s Marketing and Publications personnel to develop the materials needed to support the admissions program.
-Make arrangements for admissions testing, secure the necessary student credentials, and communicate final decisions to the appropriate individuals.
-Meet or correspond with parents who may appeal against admissions decisions.
-Track on a database all applicants from first contact to final decision and beyond and regularly share such information with the Development office as appropriate.
-Coordinate the annual calendar for admission selection weekends.
-Provide the logistical leadership for the organization of admission selection weekends.
-Ensure that the duties and responsibilities expected of current students used, if any, in the admission selection weekends are well documented and understood.
-Manage and evaluate the use of UWC students in the admission selection weekends.
-Oversee the admissions office and its staff budget.
-Evaluate all aspects of admissions and related communications to maintain capacity enrolment of qualified students.
-Manage the re-enrolment of current students for the succeeding year.
-Keep relevant statistics on all aspects of admission and present them periodically to the Director General as required.
-Ensure compliance with the school’s personal data and protection policy.
-Liaise with the Finance Office regarding student accounts
