Applications are invited for positions in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), a Joint Venture established in 2006 by the University of Liverpool, UK and Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. The business school teaches a range of programmes in Management, Economics and Accounting & Finance. It currently has 60 academic staff and over 2,000 students, and is continuing its expansion. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the growth and success of an ambitious business school located in the vibrant city of Suzhou, surrounded by Fortune 500 companies and “next door” to Shanghai one of the major financial and commercial centres in the world.

IBSS will be launching a new MSc programme in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in September 2014 (UK University of Liverpool degree) and there are entrepreneurship components in our other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The School also offers a PhD programme (UK degree).

This is an exciting time in China for innovation and entrepreneurship. China’s key focus for the continuing successful growth of it economy is on innovation. This is necessary to enable a move up the value chain from its traditional status as the manufacturing hub of the world. The recent 3^rd plenum of the Communist Party also drew attention to the need to bring the market back into state-owned enterprises – requiring increased levels of intrapreneurship. There is a thriving Innovation Park in the Higher Education Town and a significant focus on student enterprise within XJTLU. IBSS is developing the concept of an Innovation Hub within the university, seeking to bring together cross-disciplinary collaboration on entrepreneurship.

Applicants with research and teaching experience in Innovation and Entrepreneurship are welcome to apply. Applicants prepared to play an active role in the business community and support student enterprise are essential.

Successful applicants will normally have a PhD, teaching experience and evidence of the ability or potential to produce high quality research publications if pursuing a research track. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor should also have a strong track record of excellence in teaching and academic supervision, as well as an international research profile in their field and a successful record of research funding. Exceptional candidates with strong professional/industry backgrounds but without a PhD will also be considered for the position of Associate Professor of Practice.

IBSS is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), well-connected via nearby airports to cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, and via high-speed rail to other major cities in China. SIP is a pleasant, modern living area at the same time as a major growth zone, including operations run by nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. Greater Suzhou is now the fourth largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP.

The salary range for the positions is 14,463 – 29,222 RMB/month (Lecturer), and 29,664 – 40,497 RMB/month (Associate Professor). In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday” of up to three years, depending on nationality and personal circumstances.
