Part I General Description

On the basis of “students-centered”, “personal development-oriented” working philosophy of students’ affairs, XJTLU constructed four major supporting systems, which are “Buddy System”, “External Mentor System”, “Personal Tutor System” and “ Class Tutor System”. Therefore, students could gain relevant help from each individual supporting system.

Among the four systems, Class Tutoring System is composed of class tutors of XJTLU, offering non-academic support, and Buddy System is composed of buddies for local year-1 students, and international students. Both systems are the vital supporting system of Five-Star Education Model.

The vision of both class tutoring and buddy system is to offer a platform for mutual communication between XJTLU and students; to integrate relevant resources to guide and support students efficiently; to construct class mode, and take the unique education model of XJTLU in practice; to create a healthy and vigorous campus to cater for various tastes of students.

Part II Main Responsibility and Accountability

The position covers the following duties:

1 To support the operation of the Class Tutoring System

2 To provide personal nonacademic guidance, such as mental health, students organizations and activities, social practice, students self- management, accommodation services, and so on.

3 To liaise with academic department and teaching centers to establish collaboration mechanism and system to provide satisfying community and supports for students where necessary.

4 To cooridate the operation of the Buddy Program System

5 To recruit, train and valuate qualified buddies.

6 To coordinate the regular management of buddy program.

7 To guide the work of Buddy Program Executive Committee.

8 To integrate the Class Tutoring System and Buddy Program

9 To organize communication platform, both class tutors and buddies can share their resources and have a better and deep understanding about their students, hence providing help to students correspondingly.

10 To inspect meeting involvement once a month at the least. To collect feedback and data from each class tutors.

11 To Support from senior students for increasing number of Y1 students and other concerning students.

12 To implement the Class tutoring system and buddy program together with other departments.

13 To act as class tutor, looking after about 200-300 students

With enthusiasm and good familiarly with the work of student administrative affairs.

With solid knowledge of and good familiarity with XJTLU culture and education philosophies

Highly motivated and professionally committed, and willing to work on weekends and even on holidays, where necessary

Excellent communication, coordination and presentation skills

With solid cross-cultural background, excellent written and spoken skills in both English and Chinese languages

Highly proficient IT skills: MS Office (Word, Excel and Access), Outlook, worldwide web, databases, spreadsheets and PowerPoint

Ability to work on a variety of tasks at the same time, and to organize and prioritize them, including coping with unpredictable volumes of work and busy periods

Dependability, reliability and ability to produce work of high quality
