International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing in size and influences in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. IBSS currently has 78 academic staff and almost 2,000 students, and is growing every year. As it continues to expand, IBSS now seeks to appoint further academic leaders and this offers in turn an exhilarating opportunity for academics from around the world to play a part in leading this unique institution’s academic growth.
For the year 2014/2015, IBSS is launching its new PhD in Economics programme which is fundamental for developing further our research capabilities increasing significantly the quantity and quality of PhD students. The ability to contribute in courses such as Mathematics for Economists and Microeconomic Theory at that level in particular would be an advantage for candidates. IBSS is also launching an MSc in Economics and Finance and a BSc in Economics and Finance. They add to the existing BSc in Economics programme which has been running for five years. Financial Economics and Econometrics are of particular interest for these programmes.
Research wise, Economics Group in IBSS is developing a research centre in the Asia and Pacific Economies. The centre focuses on international economics, economic integration in the Asia and Pacific region and the challenges for development of the Chinese economy. Since the Business School is in a process of expansion, applicants with a research interest from a wide range of specialities, as well as interdisciplinary fields, will be carefully considered. Successful applicants will have a PhD, a strong track record of excellence in teaching and academic supervision at Masters and PhD level, an international research profile in their field and a successful record of research funding. An interest in Asia and Pacific research or in experimental economics would also be well regarded.
IBSS is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), well-connected via nearby airports to cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, and via high-speed rail to other major cities in China. It is 25 minutes away from Shanghai by bullet train. SIP is a major growth zone, including operations run by nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. Greater Suzhou is now the fourth largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP.
The salary range for the position is 29,664 – 40,497 RMB/month (Associate Professor). In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday” of up to three years, depending on nationality and personal circumstances.
