PURPOSE:
The Structural Designer is responsible for the development of packaging (structural) design, sample testing, and providing technical support to packaging project.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct structural design for assigned brand packaging, including design drawing and in house sample production. Performs board combination analysis and paper material analysis. Work on summary of structure.
Conduct compression analysis for box performance evaluations (ISTA-1A test, vibration test, BCT test , CAPE, Truck Fill, and Board Combinations).
Aid in the coordination of ordering, scheduling, and inspection of all samples required from both internal resources and out sourced service providers.
Coordinate the production of (in house) samples, mockups, etc.
Create and post specifications to web based technical communication tools for implementation.
Create manufacturing specifications that are clear, efficient, and ready to be manufactured.
Accomplish performance testing of packaging designs when required.
Create duplicate designs for additional sizes or family of designed product.
Conduct on site fit testing for on-going projects.
Assist all other members of the technical team as needed.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SCOPE
Works under direct supervision. Position involves a wide diversity of work situations and requires the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently with thorough follow up. Highly professional interaction with external contacts must be maintained to ensure positive company relationships and profitability. Communications are often with individuals of another cultural background who speak and write in English as a second language. Position deals with company sensitive information.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Four year degree with major in Packaging Engineering with a special interest in fiber based packaging design and manufacturing
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software
Advanced knowledge of structural design software: Artios CAD, Workbench, AEI, Auto Cad, Score, etc.
Exposure to corrugated and/or folding carton design, production and product development
Strong analysis skills and problem solving skills
Must have completed some practical course work in manufacturing or CAD
Good command of verbal and written communication skills in both English and local language
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively across cultural and organizational lines
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:
Understanding of major print processes a plus
Any structural package design experience with exposure to corrugated and/or folding carton manufacturing is a major plus
Good knowledge of graphic design
