JOB TITLE: Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) – RCW
REPORTS-TO-TITLE: SDE Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The principal purpose for this position is to:
A. Support Global Supply Chain RCW Asia Pacific new sourcing projects by working closely with RCW GSC and GSS using the XYLEM premier sourcing process
B. Support RCW GSC in the monitoring, development, and sustainability of supplier performance in the areas of on time delivery, capacity, lead time, quality, and cost reduction.
C. Act as the onsite ITT supplier interface to ensure that RCW supply chain product flow meets all delivery, quality, response time, and cost agreements.
D. Foster the relationship of the supplier and RCW through strong supplier engagement of their business activities
E. Lead root cause analysis, short and long term corrective action execution (under support from GSC RCW), quality containment, and proactive supplier quality/delivery/capacity analysis to prevent performance issues from occurring.
F. Support RCW buyers, category managers, and sourcing engineers to ensure top performance from suppliers and requirements are met.
SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE:
Describe scope and magnitude in specific terms of project size, budgets, sales volume, operational impact, and personnel.
The Supplier Development Engineer position will:
Develop supplier base to provide XYLEM/RCW with competitive advantages in quality, on-time delivery, lead time, and cost.
Review RCW patterns located in various suppliers in LCR. Stay close to all sources of castings to monitor yields and tool conditions. Inform GSC RCW when patterns are degrading.
Learn Xylem/RCW requirements and train the supplier on those requirements.
Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools such as manufacturing capability studies, gauge R&R, data collection, and root cause analysis to assess supplier capability, and to improve supplier performance.
Work with supplier to
Identify process improvement and root cause analysis
Identify short term and long term corrective action in supplier process for problems identified in inspection or customer site
Analyze and improve: Purchase Order receipt, foundry & manufacturing process, software requirements through final packing, shipment and delivery to US based locations
Reduce waste through lean practices with supplier to drive scrap and throughput time down.
Ensure high yield of quality parts in final inspection and 0 defects at XYLEM/RCW sites.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
State formal education level, work experience, & specialization required. State additional professional, technical, skills or knowledge required.
Education: BS Degree Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering. Or an equivalent degree and/or pertinent experience (see below).
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, in machining and/or sand, investment foundry environment.
Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Ability to read and interpret complex part drawings and diagrams, and to posses considerable mechanical ability.
Knowledge of various measurement methods, and inspection equipment and tools typically utilized in a manufacturing environment such as Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), micrometer, calipers, etc. Able to perform quality checks using basic inspection tools and basic quality data analysis.
Capable of performing supplier quality assessments. – both at a quality systems level and at a technical level (castings/machining)
Self starter and ability to recognize areas of improvement without specific direction.
Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to respond to email communications within 24 hours or as required.
Background in Pattern development: Wood, Steels, Aluminum, Investment and machine shop CNC and manual machining.
Ability to communicate in English and Chinese (written and oral). Participate in conference calls after normal work hours as required with US.
Ability to run a supplier meeting and document meeting minutes, actions items, and negotiate supplier performance and commitments to RCW per GSC direction update RCW personnel.
Ability to travel to the US if required and heavy travel requirements within Asia Pacific (mainly China, but could include India or other AP countries) – up to 80%.
Competencies/Traits: List demonstrated traits of successful performers.
Strong analytical skills and ability to map out processes and analyze data, & information for improvement
Attention to detail and follow through and driver of improvement
