The Role
As part of its commitment to develop the careers of all it people, internal promotion has led to a need to recruit a General Manager for Building 388, the brand new flag ship facility in Suzhou. Reporting to the VP Operations, this role is a critical one for the organisation as it will play a pivotal role in the development and growth of its process and capabilities. Building 388 is already the largest ********** site that plays a key part in supporting Plan for Growth customers, leading the field in terms of innovation and automation. The successful candidate will build on the good work achieved by the team in the last 18 months and will continue to focus on operational excellence and high customer satisfaction.

The Suzhou #388 site produces display windows products in both glass and plastic as well as the Spextromark laser cut product set.

A top priority will be focusing on integrating the Spextromark process into the existing #388 operation and driving synergies. In addition the role will focus on the continued development of flexible automated processes to deliver differentiated products and performance. Other priorities include developing the plant’s capabilities to meet and exceeding the demands placed upon them, driving efficiency and working to uniformity of KPIs, processes and standards.

The General Manager will be expected to show true leadership to the Suzhou based team and provide the direction that they require, managing, developing and growing the strengths of the individuals and the team. He or she will bring a structured, organised, systematic and consistent approach to the way that the plant is managed, ensuring that customers receive a first class and consistent service. This site is of major strategic importance to the organisation and represents a major investment of finance and resources. It is vital that the General Manager should be capable of spearheading the drive into the next stage of its growth.

In addition to providing leadership and business management and ensuring that all financial and strategic objectives are achieved, key responsibilities will include:

? Being a strong leader of the management team and achieving and exceeding all agreed financial objectives for the business, recognising that budgets are sacrosanct.
? Understanding customers and striving to create a fast, flexible, dynamic and responsive business that exceeds customer expectations. This will mean constant dialogue with the customer and with the company sales people in order to support and enhance customer relationships. The General Manager will be visible and proactive.
? Continue the drive to create a fast and flexible organisation, developing and leading the people, defining and maintaining the ‘winning’ and delivery culture that holds everyone accountable for business performance.
? Developing effective relationships at all levels in the organisation, particularly with the Global Account Directors and regional sales people.
? Ensuring that there is flawless operational execution. This will be achieved by:

1. Making more with less people
2. Improving productivity by more than 2 times the industry average, currently above 6% improvement per year on year.
3. Buying things cheaper (everything), develop and maintaining a first class supplier base that is flexible, efficient and cost effective.
4. Using less (materials) and driving out waste at all levels.
5. Developing and maintaining business systems that support operational excellence. Monitoring and relentlessly improving the top 5 business processes that meet customer needs.


The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of General Manager Suzhou Plant #388 is someone who is an experienced operations professional who achieves success through strong and directive leadership. He or she will currently be a robust leader of a manufacturing plant who has a track record of success in this kind of market, manufacturing products for demanding global customers, preferably electronic. It is imperative that the successful candidate should be accustomed to working in an organisation with the highest standards and be capable of managing a business that aspires to truly world class standards

The successful candidate will therefore:

? Preferably be degree qualified or be able to demonstrate a trained mind by displaying clarity of thought and hence direction
? Have at least five years experience in a leadership role in a stand alone manufacturing environment, taking responsibility for all operations, including finance, HR and engineering
? Be an excellent of manager of people and a first class communicator
? Have knowledge and solid understanding of profit & loss, margin management, working capital, global pricing, manufacturing processes & KPIs.
? Preferably be experienced in working in a global organisation, ideally already is already a General Manager in a similar sized role
? Be accustomed to driving growth
? Experience of print and operating within a clean room structure.
? Understand the electronics industry and have experience and knowledge of global customers, their quality standards and their supply chain.
? Be an experienced business leader who has the confidence and skill to make things happen and bring about change
? Have a visible style of leadership, clearly engaged and able to meet objectives through detailed knowledge.
? Be able to take a strategic view as well as being able to make decisions and take responsibility
? Have a direct and candid communication style but not confrontational
? Be results focused
? Be a high energy, motivated individual with determination, ambition and a willingness to lead from the front and get involved.
? Be a team player who is an open communicator and able to establish, build and maintain excellent relationships at all levels both internally and externally
? Be highly numerate with well developed IT skills

In summary therefore, the successful candidate will be used to working in a fast paced, global business and will therefore be a resilient and resolute individual with a flexible approach to work. In order to succeed within this demanding and growing manufacturing environment, it is essential that this person should know how to manage large teams of people across different locations. He or she will be an excellent communicator, a skilled team builder and with the personal strength of character to manage the core manufacturing facility of this high octane business.
