Occupational Summary:
Duke Kunshan University (DKU), Duke University, and the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) are developing a Master of Science in Global Health (MSc-GH) that will accept its first student cohort to begin in August 2014. This is a new and high-profile program, unique in its design and curriculum, and effective initial program coordination will determine its future success.
The Education Program Coordinator supports the DKU MSc-GH program. The position will work closely with the Director of the DKU MSc-GH program (a faculty member), the Associate Director of the DKU MSc-GH, and the Assistant Director for Career Development and External Relations and, in the first two years, the DGHI Assistant Director for Graduate Programs at Duke University. S/he will serve as a primary liaison between the DKU MSc-GH program and administrative offices and functions at Duke University and DKU.
Reports to:
This position will report to the DKU MSc-GH Associate Director and will be an integral member of the Education and Training unit, which eventually will also include other staff.
Essential Duties:
Specific responsibilities are described below. The percent effort for each area of responsibility will change as the program evolves and becomes more established.
Program Administration (40%)
? Serve as primary program-specific contact for faculty, prospective applicants, current students,
alumni, other Duke units, and the public
? Develop and maintain policies, procedures, program handbook, and (eventually) annual report
? Assist program director with administrative aspects of the program
? Serve as administrative liaison with the Duke University Graduate School on academic program administration
? Assist with the development of teaching schedules for global health courses, and work with DKU administrative staff to schedule appropriate classrooms and instructional space
? Liaise with DKU International Office on issues particular to international applicants and incoming students (e.g. visas, academic equivalencies, etc.)
? Keep accurate records of DKU MSc-GH meetings and committees
? Coordinate with and adapt administrative procedures, systems, and policies of the Duke MSc-GH program as appropriate
? Administer and process course and program evaluations
Recruiting and Admissions (20%)
? With Associate Director, coordinate development and production of promotional materials and web content for the DKU MSc-GH program
? Support administrative activities around travel to and representation of the DKU MSc-GH program at relevant conferences and meetings
? Serve as primary program contact for prospective students visiting the DKU campus
? Serve as administrative liaison with the Duke University Graduate School on matters related to the admissions and selection process
? Coordinate with and adapt recruiting and admissions procedures, systems, and policies of the Duke MSc-GH program as appropriate
Student Services (40%)
? Advise students about general program requirements, course registration, and other options
? Track student progress and maintain student records
? Support the Assistant Director for Career Development and External Relations in developing career placement resources and supporting infrastructure
? Connect students with appropriate on-campus resources (counseling and health services, academic support services, language resources, career development resources, international student support services, libraries, etc.) both on-campus at DKU and at Duke University when appropriate
? Collaborate with and support the Student Projects Coordinator (to started no later than August 1, 2014) in developing a project planning and pre-departure field work workshop series
? With the DKU MSc-GH team, plan and execute the new student orientation each August
? Liaise with other student services offices and officers at DKU as needed
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree is preferred. Likely candidates will have a degree in Public Health, Education, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or International Development
? Desire to work in a team-oriented, dynamic, fast-paced, start-up environment
? Minimum of one year of professional experience in academic administration, international education, or related area (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience), with specific experience in China and other Asian countries
? Familiarity with global health
? Commitment to working with students, faculty, and staff
? Experience living, working, or studying in an international, cross-cultural setting
? Project management, organization, and communication skills (oral and written)
? Ability to work in China
? Fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English
Position is based in Kunshan, China. Candidate must be available to travel to the United States for training for several weeks during 2014.
