Many P&LS organizations are faced with the promise of great discoveries and the challenges of market fluctuations and increasing regulation. PwC's P&LS Consulting Practice delivers the complete package from strategy to implementation to address its clients' most pressing business issues. While remaining flexible to the different needs of each client, the use of these tools and processes has helped to accelerate results and confirm that projects run smoothly.
Although we have a distinct go-to-market team dedicated to Health, the P&LS and Health teams frequently work jointly to develop propositions for the market and delivering projects for our clients. Both Heath and P&LS are designated key priorities in the current 5 Year plan, and we place equal importance on both to reflect this priority. We see the skills and experience across the sectors and interchangeable to reflect the needs of our clients.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying the critical issues - Managers work with Partners and Director/Associate Director to outline the key business issues needing resolution;
- Structuring analyses – Once the key issues have been identified, the Consultant typically forms a plan to find the answers to these critical questions. They will layout the strategy to the team for finding information on market growth drivers, competitive profiling, or broad market trends;
- Managing the team' day-to-day activities – Management of less experienced colleagues is as much a part of the Manager role as solving business issues. A significant responsibility for PwC. Manager is guiding and mentoring more junior Associates on a day-to-day basis; and
- Solving the case – At the end of the day, our clients expect high quality, actionable answers to their business problems. Managers are on point to ensure the team is on-track to accurately solve the problem and deliver an answer. Managers supervise analyses, develop the structure for the final output, provide quality control, and in most cases, participant in the delivery of the conclusion with senior management for the client.
In addition, Managers are expected to contribute to the firm's growth and development in a variety of ways, core consulting skills expected include:
- Analysis and Insight: demonstrate strong analytical capabilities and apply knowledge of selected tools and techniques, drawing logical conclusions;
- Communications: ability to structure, write and deliver presentations and other deliverables in business English and Chinese;
- Sales management: build follow-on opportunities at clients and contribute to proposals;
- Engagement management: manage work-streams on time with the appropriate use of resources, working within and lead PwC and/or Client teams;
- Commercial: demonstrate an understanding of industry context and issues, strong negotiation skills and contract management experience;
- People: manage and develop junior team members on the project providing regular feedback; and
- Firm development: contribute to firm activities and internal knowledge management.
Requirements:
- University degree with strong grades from reputable university, MBA preferred;
- Minimum 4 years Strategy Consulting experience within the Life Sciences sector;
- Experiences with Strategy projects in:
- Customer and channel strategy
- Defining and delivering growth (organic and inorganic)
- Post-merger integration
- Emerging markets entry/growth
- Pricing & profitability management/strategy
- Trade promotion effectiveness
- Sales and Marketing excellence
- Possess basic understanding of regulatory requirements/regulatory trends in the pharmaceutical industry (Chinese healthcare reform, GMP, GSP…etc);
- Ability to work independently, manage small engagements or parts of large engagements;
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment;
- Willingness to mentor junior staff;
- Strong executive level relationship building skills;
- Ability to create and deliver high-impact communications to senior audiences (written and oral in both Chinese and English) and facilitate complex discussions; and
- Fluency in English, Chinese, and additional languages is considered advantageous.
