ROLE:
The Maintenance Engineer evaluates Management of Change requests and maintenance type requests to design, estimate and procure appropriations for capital project execution. As a project manager, it is his/hers responsibility to assure that the project is economically, ergonomically feasible and does not create unsafe environments. He/she is responsible for bringing the project to completion within budget, in a timely manner, and within the guidelines for capital expenditure. This position is necessary to manage projects from planning to completion, meet the needs of the customer, assure the project plan is followed, and effect support/follow-up/training as required. The Maintenance Engineer is the plant’s resource for knowledge and assistance on rotating equipment, stationary equipment, piping, structural, civil, heat tracing/insulation/coatings, electrical, and instrumentation. The projects that are designed and constructed should meet industry engineering practices and Lubrizol standards.

Providing a leadership role in safety and environmental efforts is a key function of the Maintenance Engineer. It is necessary to make sure a completed project affords safety to those people that will be operating or visiting the area. Active involvement in audit teams through the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and participating in the Safety Through Employee Participation (STEP) program via observations and follow up is an important role of the Maintenance Engineer. Also, review of existing, new and proposed installations as to their accessibility and their impact on ergonomics is an additional role of the Maintenance Engineer. Scheduling PHA’s as required by project definition assures that project scope meets engineering standards and practices. The use of plant standards, best engineering practices, the LZ safety department, and OSHA guidelines are required ?

The design and installation of well engineered projects for Operations and Maintenance is a major responsibility of the maintenance engineer. Engineering drawings and equipment specifications are generated and transferred to engineering files to reflect changes caused by project revisions.

Direct contact by the maintenance engineer with Operations is a required step to assure that the design and field installation of the new project meets expectations and applicability as specified by MOC or revision request. This can include meetings with the superintendent or his appointed representative, PHAs, and construction meetings. Regular updates and follow-up meetings are necessary to keep customers informed of the progress of the project and can add to a successful project completion

The job requires completing a project on time and on budget. This starts with a complete, well defined scope and the ability to remain within this scope through out the duration of the project. Flexibility may be necessary to adapt to problems during the construction phase and a good imagination and a firm grasp of engineering skills and experience will be necessary to make changes and stay within the budget.

Provide technical support, advice, and guidance to maintenance equipment reliability efforts. This job requires the knowledge of equipment and construction disciplines used in a chemical plant. This should include but is not limited to, rotating equipment, stationary equipment, piping, structural, civil, heat tracing/insulation/coatings, electrical and instrumentation. This, and the knowledge of proper installation, will insure the systems will be reliable, effective, and efficient for years to come. The engineer should be able to read and interpret prints, isometric drawings, and P&IDs.

After a project is closed, the Maintenance Engineer is often required to follow up with operations for technical support, problem solving, and training. The retention of project records and documents is a must.

Education / Certification
A Bachelor of Science degree in any of the Engineering disciplines is required.
Experience and Skills
Two or more years of related experience are required. Experience outside facilities would enhance job performance. Knowledge of contract and bid negotiations is a plus in equipment and labor procurement. Ability in SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is necessary.
Supervisory Responsibility
The Maintenance Engineer has no direct reports, but the position requires the engineer to interface with LZ construction personnel and outside contractors. This requires the engineer to have leadership skills and the ability to direct the actions and energies of many people. A prior role in supervision is helpful, but not required.
Empowerment & Decision Making
The Maintenance Engineer has authority to approve invoices for contracts and equipment. Analyzing hard bid contracts and issuing winning bid purchase orders fall under the umbrella of this position’s duties.
Language Skill
Fluent in both written and spoken English and Mandarin, CET-6 preferred
