Position title: Procurement Engineer Indirect F&D Functional area Procurement

What is the Main Purpose of the Job?
The main objective of a Procurement Engineer Indirect Material & Services with service focus is to drive for concept savings in E2E supply chain, with central focus on Forwarding and Distribution. This by identifying, analyzing and driving opportunities to optimize End to End physical distribution supply chains in terms of service, lead time and cost performance and advise the logistics sourcing teams on benchmark cost levels and business requirements, and support in the negotiations with logistics service providers. Achieve cost reduction through value engineering and supply chain (physical distribution) optimization. He/she is a key participant in the “design for logistics” (I2M) set of processes, from business planning to product lifecycle, with the major share of work being in new E-2-E distribution design. He/she primarily assists development teams by providing them with accurate cost estimates and by challenging them to further optimize the product and the supply chain and leading DfX-projects.

The Procurement Engineer supports the business to access all Procurement activities, including Commodity Management teams and O2C. They manage involvement of all relevant Commodity Management teams & X-functional partners in the distribution supply chain creation process. Redesign F&D setup according to E2E also redesign supplier collaboration and involvement.

Key Areas of Responsibilities (KAR) for this role
Drive concept savings in (new) distribution supply chains in close cooperation with Marketing, Quality, SCM and development;
Optimize and/or improve customer service levels while optimizing the integral E2E F&D Costs;
Represents procurement in a development center and ensures early supplier involvement;
Provide accurate cost estimates;
Leads/ executes DfX conventions;
Provides should-cost assessments for newly proposed supply chains;
Drives request for quotation process based on the Forward Procurement List;
Drives the Supplier Selection Process together with the Commodity Teams;
Supplier involvement for better designs on cost and performance
Aligns needs with competitive landscape and technology roadmaps
Provides input for make or buy analysis;
Supports the in/outsourcing process (e.g. knowledge transfer, supplier ramp-up);
Provides input to the Commodity Teams regarding the supply base characteristics based on business requirements;
The Procurement Engineer may act as Supplier Account Manager assigned   Responsibilities and Accountabilities Sector(s) Key activities in this role (list the most important activities and provide sufficient details to give a good insight into exactly what the role does)
Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education:
Master or Bachelor degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration

Relevant experience:
10 years of experience in a in supply chain related functions (physical distribution, logistics, procurement, quality planning and forecasting…) or related financial controlling functions (cost engineering, supplier auditing, …).
Change management experience gained e.g. in lean warehousing or six sigma style programs is also considered relevant.
Familiarity with Value Engineering tools is desirable but not required.
Process improvement techniques based on Lean Manufacturing principles will be a plus.

Candidate profile:
Candidates are required to have a sound practical knowledge of how supply chains work and be able to assess the cost drivers of logistics processes. They need to be familiar with how cost calculations are built up and what direct costs and mark-ups are applicable throughout the entire supply chain - inbound, in-house and outbound. They need to have a sense of proportion as to what cost levels are appropriate and be “street smart” about how cost is often disguised or smartly “justified” in product cost reports and supplier quotations.

Candidates need to demonstrate strong networking and communication skills, as the ability to lead teams effectively and to get stakeholders of other functions agree to cost reduction actions will be critical to obtaining the challenging cost reduction targets agreed with management.
