PURPOSE
To guide design engineer to use right materials and solve troubleshooting; build up material competence and further cost reduction in products to achieve business.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
a) Directly report: Mechanical Development Manager
b) Indirectly: 0
c) Partner: Need to communicate with OEM and ODM suppliers, component engineer, electric engineer, project manager, purchasing, marketing and suppliers;

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Search for new lower cost material to support further production cost reduction;
- To guide mechanical engineer to select right material for products;
- To support mechanical engineer and suppliers to select components post treatment process (painting, electrical plating, anodize oxidation etc.);
- Fail mode analysis of material;
- Review supplier drawings and data to confirm compliance to project specification;
- Feasibility study on new application and new material;
- Take lead new material validation when new material introduction;
- Visit supplier shops to pre-qualify suppliers and also to conduct quality surveillance during fabrication;
- Monitor RoHS, REACH free etc. requirements in components and products level, regular check and guide suppliers to control their components and products during fabrication;

MAJOR CHALLENGES
The position will involve various products (like switches and sockets, LED modules etc.), various metal alloys (Steel, Aluminum, Brass, Bronze and silver alloy etc.) and their process (stamping, extrusion, die-casting, and metal cosmetics and so on);

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the following personal capabilities and competence for acceptable performance:
a) Education: B.S. or above in material engineering fields
b) Experience: At least 8-10 years’ working experience in metal material engineering etc.;
c) Travel Frequency: < 25%
d) Competency and Skills:
- At least 8-10 years in material selection, evaluation, corrosion, or other relevant tasks;
- The candidate is an expert in steel, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, silver alloy material;
- Be familiar with industrial standard of various metal material;
- Be familiar with metal deforming process knowledge (like, single-step and progressive stamping, extrusion, die-casting etc.);
- Capability of providing technical support on metallurgical issues during product development, testing and fabrication;
- Ability to review client (supplier) specification and make recommendations to update latest industrial practice;
- Post-plating, heat treatment and painting knowledge;
- CAE skill is preferred;
- RoHS, REACH knowledge;
- Electrical contact knowledge is preferred;
- OEM and ODM management experience is preferred;
- Fluent spoken and written English;
- Initiative and strong sense of responsibility;
- Team player and result oriented
