Specialist Market Support - Coal

Rio Tinto Coal Australia (RTCA) is one of Australia's leading mining organisations with a highly successful record in developing and managing world-class coal operations. It is a wholly-owned member of the Rio Tinto Group. Rio Tinto Coal Australia produces both thermal and coking coal from our six operations – in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales and Queensland's Bowen Basin – for international export. In Queensland, the company operates the Hail Creek, Kestrel and Clermont mines. In New South Wales, Rio Tinto Coal Australia manages Coal & Allied’ s operations at Mount Thorley Warkworth, Hunter Valley Operations and Bengalla.
The core activities of the role will include:
? Develop and maintain customer relationships through personal contact, exchanging information and assisting with technical support;
? Collect, analyse and report public domain data on customers, products, markets, competitors and pricing in order to position RTCA as a leader in the industry;
? Explore opportunities for the business growth through new market development and values add competitiveness;
? Maintain and refine of market analysis and intelligence and competitor intelligence in relation to the Chinese market;
? Perform fundamental analysis on coal demand and supply, market growth and key drivers for various regions within China;
? Troubleshoot commercial issues in terms of contract performance, quality variances and contract performance;
? Negotiate delivery schedules and commercial terms in relation to contract drafting and letters of credit;
? Source appropriate data for analysis and model supply and demand fundamentals, and market pricing intelligence;
? Interpret competitor positions and strategies as it relates to the China Market;
? Interpret customers’ negotiation positions and assist with formulating a negotiation strategy to position RTCA favourably;
? Interpret opportunities to reduce cost of sales through changes in contract terms, specifications and supply channels;
? Balance pressures created by conflicting requirements.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor degrees, tertiary Qualification in a business, finance, economics, engineering or related field.
? Minimum 8 years in broad career role with strong people interface, sales management and strategy implementation.
? Commercial Acumen, Energy and Integrity.
? Problem solving capability
? Strong critical thinking and rigorous research and analysis skills.
? Communication skills – verbal and written.
? A well-developed sense of personal responsibility.
? Sound knowledge of, and competence with Microsoft Office Applications and other relevant software, in particular spread sheeting and modelling.
? A willingness to exercise initiative.
? The ability to establish and maintain effective role relationships with other team members, peers and customers.
? Proven business skills within a bulk commodity environment.
? Knowledge of commercial positioning and marketing/market intelligence.
? Extensive experience in data analysis.
? Experience working in performance-driven teams.
