Business Contribution:

To manage Actuant’s current $23M worldwide spend in Electronic Components (Capacitors, Resistors, Connectors, IC’s, Chokes, Diodes, etc…) to achieve annual price, quality and delivery improvements. Be the “go to” person for any and all questions, issues, etc… that arise for the commodity. Be the Actuant subject matter expert internally for AST, as well as for Actuant as a whole, who currently has locations in over 30 countries.

Key Responsibilities:

§ Be the in-house expert and commodity manager of Electronic Components (Capacitors, Resistors, Connectors, IC, etc…) suppliers for $23M in business that is purchased in a mixture of direct purchases and purchases through Contract Manufacturers (CM’s) for both commercial / industrial and automotive industries.

§ Be the single point of contact at AST for Actuant Businesses that buy the components, as well as the distributors of the components, the manufacturers of the components and CM’s that are buying the components on Actuant’s behalf; work closely and collaboratively with Engineers and Purchasing Professionals at Actuant businesses, as well as tactical buyers internally at AST.

§ Drive the Actuant worldwide Electronic Component Team where members of the team will be located in the US, Mexico, Brazil, Sweden, Spain, and Holland; hold meetings on a regular basis with quarterly report-outs of sourcing strategies and progress towards goals.

§ Work collaboratively with the Global Sourcing Leaders of the various Business Units to develop and drive the overall Electronic Component sourcing strategy (distributor versus manufacture / LCC versus local to demand / low cost versus premium / etc…) and Year-over-year overall improvement metrics for the commodity (Price, Quality, Delivery).

§ Develop a system for easily consolidating the Electronic Component spend across Actuant worldwide businesses who use different ERP systems.

§ Initiate manufacturer direct contracts where volumes of specific components dictate (Tyco, 3M, Bourns, Fairchild, Murata Erie, etc…).

§ Annual rebidding, negotiation and business awards for all Electronic Components as demand changes.

§ Owner of Electronic Component supplier contracts, as well as insuring compliance with those contracts.

§ Develop a documented preferred supplier list for each component type for both premium and low cost manufacturers, communicate preferred suppliers across the engineering teams of Actuant for use in new designs, as well as drive conversion of existing designs to preferred suppliers and low cost manufacturers where possible.

§ Integrate additional existing CM’s / Actuant business units whose spend is not currently consolidated, as well as future acquisitions, into the commodity management.

§ Determine / manage stocking levels / locations depending on the demand volumes / locations.

§ Development of risk mitigation plans to insure on-time delivery during times of allocation.

§ Help CM’s and Actuant Businesses to get alternatives or pull in deliveries during times of allocation.

§ Develop a system to maintain a file of costed BOM’s from contract manufacturers; develop a systematic approach to incorporating any favorable CM component pricing into Actuant’s contracts, as well as maintaining a system to drive Actuant’s favorable pricing across CM’s and insure any savings are reflected in the Finished Goods pricing back to Actuant.

Required Capabilities:

§ Requires knowledge usually acquired through a 4 year degree in business, purchasing, operations, or technical equivalent, in addition to appropriate work experience of 5-7 years in a manufacturing related business or technical discipline.

§ Minimum of 3-5 years commodity management for Electronic Components at either a major CM (Flextronics, Foxconn, Delta, etc…) or a major Component Distributor (Arrow, Avnet, Future, WPG, etc…).

§ Must be able to demonstrate the ability to function collaboratively in a team of peers and influence others through technical presentation and data analysis.

§ Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills.

§ Experience and working knowledge of processes involved in purchasing and inventory management systems. Previous participation in a Kan Ban program and/or cost down teams preferred.

§ Fluent Mandarin speaker with excellent English written and verbal communication skills (Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch or Swedish would also be a plus).

§ Cultural sensitivity/experience working with other business groups internationally (US, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Holland and Sweden).

§ Strong team and project management skills to facilitate and champion projects, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

§ Strong interpersonal skills to interact in a cross functional fashion with all companies, departments, and employee levels in the organization. Resilient, determined and able to work under pressure.

§ Ability to analyze data, be resourceful, and initiate proactive timely, well-thought-out decisions.

§ High degree of ethics and personal conduct.

§ Must be able and willing and able to travel internationally by air/boat/bus/auto to remote sites as required.

Essential Functions:

This position will lead the strategy and facilitate all activities related to the management of the Electronic Component commodity for all of Actuant world-wide. Current Actuant business units that purchase electronic components are located in the US, Mexico, Brazil, Sweden, Spain and Holland.

This position will be the focal point at AST for the Actuant businesses, as well as the component distributors, component manufacturers, and Actuant contract manufacturers. This position will have overall responsibility at AST for all communication, strategies, negotiations, issue resolution, and year-over-year metric improvements for this commodity.

This is a newly created position for a commodity that is purchased from multiple business units and hasn’t been holistically managed in the past, and as such will require a fair amount of procedural development and team collaboration, but also has high expectations for metric improvements. You will be working closely with the Sourcing and Engineering specialists at the Actuant businesses worldwide.

You will be part of a round table team within AST with specialists on several functional area’s. The round table will represent a specific group of Actuant businesses that are linked by commodity type. You will be reporting into the Team Leader of that round table.
