Tasks and Responsibilities:

• To create and improve manufacturing processes, efficiency, quality and cost by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, machining, assembly, tooling materials and methods, pertaining to bevel, hypoid, spline, cylindrical gears etc.
• Plans, develops, evaluates and improves gear manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of gear design, materials and standards, machining processes tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and gear quality control standards
• Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning detailed work flow, space requirements, equipment layout and tooling/fixture upgrading
• Confers with project team, including tool engineer, process engineer and staff other than Engineering, concerning product design and tooling to analyze the project for feasibility, to establish standards and ensure efficient production methods
• Confers with vendors to determine specifications and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment
• Provides manufacturing decision making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs reviewing production schedules estimating future requirements
• Provides instruction and guidance to shop floor personnel in the efficient use of tooling and equipment

Knowledge & Skills Summary:

• Proficient with CAD/CAM/CAE systems e.g. Solid Works/AutoCAD/ProE
• Familiar with FMEA, Control Plan, 8D, gear design/manufacturing standards, AGMA and DIN
• Familiar with tool analysis, process troubleshooting and transmission system manufacturing process
• Applicant should be well organized, efficient and must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with shop floor employees
• Fluent English in speaking and in written, along with average computer skills

Education and work Experience:

• Minimum of an Associates degree in Mechanical Technology or equivalent
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with gear technology equipment in metal machining MFG environment, including gear cutting, gear grinding, GMM etc.
• Minimum 5 years in Bevel/Hypoid/Cylindrical and spline processing preferred
• Experience with machining fixture design preferred
