Job Description:
As the Engine Quality Manager, your direct responsibilities will include;
Provide daily production line support to engine manufacturing, which includes making decisions related to product quality serving as the voice of the customer, MTD.
Work directly with MTD’s manufacturing partners and their respective suppliers to develop quality plans, identify and close gaps within their systems that may result in quality issues.
Directly supervise and mentor MTD Asia’s Engine Quality personnel to coordinate all necessary quality activities. Assist the General Manager in their performance evaluation, career development. , hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provide global support to MTD assembly plants with quality issues related to engine supply.
Establish and utilize appropriate quality tracking metrics to prioritize quality issues and drive corrective action and continuous improvement based on real time data.
Lead and collaboratively work with all functions to establish true root cause and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Assist MTD’s manufacturing partner in the development and maintenance of their engine process control plans and in-process work instructions.
Actively work with MTD’s Engine Product Development team to identify and lead advanced quality planning activities for new product development.
Maintain and audit procedures for effective non-conforming material identification and containment .
Participate in cost containment/reduction initiatives.
Participate in new product / pilot launch activity to identify areas of improvement or quality concerns prior to production launch. Responable for tracking new product qualification testing activities.
Ensure consistent and comprehensive quality strategy is implemented and maintained for current product as well as future product development activities.
Audit manufacturing practices to assure conformance to MTD Quality Requirements, including developing and implementing corrective action plan where required.
Interface with engineering and participate in all design reviews and reliability testing to optimize product design for manufacturability, performance, and cost containment/reduction.
Support production by troubleshooting supplier quality issues, utilizing problem solving techniques to assist suppliers in identifying root cause and initiating corrective/preventive action.
Monitor and analyze global engine warranty analysis to identify and recommend engine design and manufacturing improvements.
Champion PPAP process to ensure timely, complete and acceptable submissions from suppliers.
Participate and lead PFMEA at engine manufacturing facilities and sub-tier suppliers as necessary.
Develop, organize, and conduct training activities related to product/process quality and reliability.
Evaluate supplier’s methods of gage control and calibration effectiveness. Make recommendations to improve precision and accuracy of testing and measuring equipment.
Reasonable for the completion and tracking of the “MTD Clean Air Act Compliance Worksheet”
Oversee the selection and approval of new part suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Engineering discipline or 8 years equivalent professional work experience in Quality Engineering / Management.
Demonstrated experience with applying quality tools and techniques (SPC, Control Plans, PFMEA, PPAP, DOE, APQP, sampling plans, system auditing, and corrective actions)
Ability to effectively interface with all support functions such as; manufacturing, purchasing, sales, and engineering.
Must possess strong bi-lingual verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate internally, as well as, externally to all levels of the organization.
Must be able to read an engineering drawing. Including GD&T and material specifications.
Must be familiar with common manufacturing process. Machining, aluminum diecasting, plastic molding and steel stampings.
Must be able to initiate, manage and drive change.
Demonstrate effective organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Must be able lead, motivate and develop others.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a global team environment.
Ability and willingness to travel internationally when necessary.
Knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
