- Understand customer and business values of our products (or the customer and business requirements for our products)
- Leverage internal & external resources to deliver innovative mechanical solutions (architecture & design ) to realize customer and biz values ( to ensure best customer/user experience end to end and in various scenarios)
- Ensure mechanical solutions/designs meet performance requirements including mechanical function & reliability.
- Ensure mechanical solutions/designs are cost-effective
- Ensure mechanical solutions/designs meet DFx requirements like DFM ( tool-ability, mold-ability, and ease of assembly, etc)
- Continuous cost reduction engineering through re-design efforts;
- Production qualification and on-going process enhancements, including mechanical component production and testing at Tier-2 or sub-tier suppliers, and product assembly & testing at Tier-1 suppliers
- Injection mold, metal stamping tool and other production tools’ qualification;
- Leverage internal & external resources to ensure deliverables of design qualification and reliability engineering throughout the end-to-end product develop phases
- Leverage internal and external resources to deliver solutions to meeting products’ optical, thermal, acoustic, and compliance requirements ( including ESD, safety, and environment, etc)
- Risk management & mitigation throughout the end-to-end development phases
- Project management, e.g. managing schedule, cost, specification, communication and investors/stakeholders
- Tier-1 and sub-tier suppliers’ management regarding mechanical aspect or the related to ensure suppliers to deliver on our expectations when working in CDM ( Contracted Design and Manufacture ) product development model
Major Deliverables:
- Detailed mechanical design (3D design data, 2D product and component drawings, inspection drawings, BOM, and other design documentation)
- Product ME and the related specifications
- Mechanical architecture and design evaluation/validation plan ( & other evaluation/validation plans for product thermal, optical, acoustic and compliance designs)
- Program ME & its related schedules
- POC/Engineering/Design/Process verification build objectives, build plan & readiness
- Collection of testing and evaluation data, and technical report on the data analysis and conclusion
- Risk assessment and mitigation plan
ME statement of work when working in CDM product development model
- Communications in various forms, like program milestone presentation slides, architecture/design review summary, minutes for discussion (e.g., with suppliers and other internal functions ), etc
Language: English oral and written communication
KSA:
- 10+ experience:
o Hands-on mechanical architecture, design & development in high volume consumer products
o Exposure in Tier-1 and sub-tier suppliers’ manufacturing environment
o Exposure in end-to-end product design and development in MNCs or renowned local companies
o Proven ability to work with functions closer to customers and business to understand, translate, and incorporate customer and biz values into mechanical solutions and specifications
- Good to deep knowledge of:
o Engineering materials including metal, plastic and elastomer, etc
o Material mechanics
o Probability & statistics
o Plastic injection mould, molding, and plastic secondary processing
o Metal stamping, forming, and its secondary processing, including tooling
o Reliability engineering
o Optics, thermal management, and acoustics
o Product compliance and regulations
o Project management
- Skill:
o 3D modeling: proficiency in using Pro/Engineer is desired and preferred
o Worst case and statistical tolerance analysis;
o Data analysis tools: using MS Excel is a must, and using other tools like JMP or Mintab is a plus
o Finite element modeling and analysis ( FEM and FEA)
o Troubleshooting skill for failures in prototype, development phase build and testing, and mass production
o Familiarity with tools like DFMEA , DFx and DOE is strong a plus
o Presentation & conferencing skills
o Language: fluency in English writing and speaking a must, fluency in Mandarin speaking is a strong plus
o Basic PM skill
