General Summary

The automation engineering position leads with technology innovation, development, integration, and demonstration of new tooling, automation and processing technologies for current and future CommScope products, thus improving quality, cycle time and profitability. The ideal candidate will be able to develop fully, complex and big automated fiber optics termination system independently.

Duties & Responsibilities

1.Designs big mechanical systems using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo.

2.Coach other mechanical engineer to improve designing capability

3.Play critical role to review automation system design in team

4.Collaborates with manufacturing, controls and process engineering peers to ensure meeting project requirements and timelines resulting with successful project completion.

5.Develops requirements and specifications through interviews with customers and internal stakeholders.

6.Analyzes measurement data to determine project feasibility and provide input for management's recommendations on whether or not to proceed with a project.

7.Contributes to the intellectual property portfolio through trade secrets, patents and invention disclosures that have immediate or future potential benefit to the company.

8.Develops Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) requirements for new products to align with assembly in an automated manufacturing environment.

9.Champions compliance to DFM/DFA requirements.

10.Provides technical expertise on industry-wide developments.

11.Experience with Fiber Optics experience a plus.

12.Project management to develop and maintain realistic but aggressive project schedules.

Required Skills & Qualifications

1.Bachelor’s + degree with 15+ years’ designing experience in professional automation company.

2.Mechanical or automation education background

3.Ability to learn how to develop and deploy assembly and process equipment and automation systems for production of small components.

4.Mechanical design of tooling, automation or other systems using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo.

5.Capable of analyzing data using Excel, Minitab or other software tools.

6.Capable of using statistical methods.

7.Ability to assess capability of measurement tools and systems with input and guidance from the team.

8.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with the global organization.

9.Proficiency with current MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project.

10.Introduction to PLC-based control systems a plus.

11.Good English communication skill, can work with global engineering team independently

12.Lean Sigma black or green belt a plus.
