Senior / Quality Assurance Engineer

Department: Oreck-Asia Group

Position Objective: Ensure that product currently manufactured in Asia meets or exceeds Oreck standards regarding all specified design, quality and safety configurations. Ensure that Asian suppliers are certified to be in compliance with Oreck quality objectives. Support supplier production in resolving technical problems. Review and make recommendations relating to quality in new product development designs. Incumbent is responsible for technical decisions that affect product quality levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure Oreck-Asia achieves mission to deliver safe, high quality products and services to Oreck USA by developing a reliable and high quality supplier network system in Asia.
• Establish & manage quality assurance assessment and certification systems that ensure Asian suppliers are qualified to provide finished products, components, materials, and services to the Oreck Company.
• Ensure engineering design specifications, safety requirements, and product quality standards are met regarding product categories assigned.
• Communication with suppliers to discuss improvements or issues, follow-up and implementation.
• Analyze inspection data to determine new or recurring issues.
• Investigate and resolve assigned product quality related problems. Initiate corrective actions to resolve product non-conformance issues.
• Assume responsibility for product quality related decisions.
• Schedule product audit testing by certified Asian suppliers to determine acceptability of product revisions or to acquire information needed as part of engineering analysis, and analyze results.
• Train and facilitate certified Asian inspectors in pre-shipment product assessments.
• Participate in cross-functional teams in development of new product that is to be manufactured in Asia.
• Prepare and distribute summary reports regarding Asian supplier quality metrics to Asian and USA management on a quarterly basis.
• Facilitate and translate communications between Oreck Quality, Engineering, Purchasing and the suppliers.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Bachelor of Science or Associates Degree in Engineering Technology with 3 years minimum mechanical engineering related experience.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in Quality Assurance department procedures and practices as it relates to electro-mechanical appliance industries.
• Broad knowledge of quality assurance systems including quality auditing, product inspection procedures (AQL’s, CTF’s, metrology, etc.), process management metrics, supplier assessment, ratings and scorecards practices.
• Thorough knowledge of high-volume (electro-mechanical appliance industry related) product design and manufacturing practices.
• Working knowledge of materials physical characteristics, e.g., plastics, steel, aluminum powdered metal, etc.
• Working knowledge of Engineering drawings and layout practices.
• Strong analytical problem solving shills
• Demonstrated to take pro-active initiative and possesses strong decision making capabilities.
• Fluent (Speaking and writing) in Mandarin Chinese and English language. Additional languages or dialects considered a plus
• Thorough knowledge of standard computer systems including, Microsoft office word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
• Good written and verbal communication skills when communicating with engineers and suppliers on a technical level.
