Occupational Summary

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Duke Kunshan University (DKU) and consulting with and receiving guidance from the Associate Vice President for Business Development: Duke Kunshan University (DKU) and China, the Director of Development will design and implement major fundraising efforts, develop strategic marketing of innovative programs, and actively participate in the economic development of the region.

Work Performed

Fundraising and Development

1. Support planning and execution of comprehensive major gift fundraising efforts for Duke Kunshan University (DKU) to include alumni, parents, board members, major donors and friends of DKU, as well as through corporate and governmental relationships. Identify prospects and develop a major gifts program.
2. Develop a portfolio of prospects and maintain active efforts to evaluate prospects identified through fieldwork, screening, and research.
3. Develop and implement marketing programs to enhance DKU's position with its major prospects and donors.
4. Assist administrators and faculty in the recognition and prioritization of DKU funding needs; keep abreast of institutional priorities, programs and events for use in development efforts.
5. Support the creation and management of volunteer networks to support DKU's fundraising goals, for example board of visitors, advisory board, development committee, or other.
6. Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, to include appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
7. Utilize the alumni and development system database to record prospect/donor activity and ensure appropriate and timely communication.

Program Advancement

1. Assess and engender corporate interest in programs to be delivered at DKU; meet with corporate representatives to determine interest and ascertain commitments.
2. Consulting with and receiving guidance from the Associate Vice President, develop a set of target companies and ministries and maintain relationships at the local level.
3. Support the design and delivery of innovative educational programs, including conferences, that meet the needs of local and multi-national businesses, government entities, and universities by collaborating with faculty leadership, DKU, and Duke Corporate Education.
4. Work with the leadership of DKU to identify and produce conference opportunities that will enhance the long term strategy of DKU.
5. Assist in the development of relationships with key business and community leaders in the establishment of activities related to the DKU campus that support DKU's long term strategy.
6. As directed, represent DKU in public forums and events.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training: Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. MBA or other relevant advanced degree desirable.

Experience: Work requires experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fundraising, sales and promotions, marketing, or a related field sufficient to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in general fundraising activities and proposal development. The position also requires experience in relationship development with diverse organizations and constituencies. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
