Specialist, Iron Ore China Greater Northern Region

About the role

Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) is part of the Rio Tinto Group and comprises developments and operations in Australia, North America, South America, India and Africa. The business directly employs over 12,000 people across five continents in addition to several thousand contractors.

RTIO China Team manages daily customer communication with customers on implement of company’s sales policy, ensuring contract performance, providing market information to help management work out sales strategy

RTIO China Greater Northern team is in charge of customer accounts including traders and steel mill customers in Greater Northern China. Greater Northern team is looking after over 30 steel mill and trader accounts.

Reporting to the Manager, iron ore China Greater Northern Region, you will:

• Support the Account Manager to implement the agreed RTIOA marketing strategy within the relevant market area,

• Assist Account Manager to maximise customers’ LTC performance,

• Identify the needs of current and potential customers in each relevant market area,

• Facilitate reliable customer service and resolve issues promptly and effectively, particularly with respect to debt collection,

• Build and maintain an effective relationship with industry bodies,

• Provide and interpret the market data / intelligence for management,

• Support the manager with proven insights on Chinese Steel Industry from a macro-economic perspective and the key indicators influencing the supply/demand for raw materials.

• Comply with applicable government regulations, professional standards and Rio Tinto policies

• Prepares consolidation journal entries, eliminates intercompany transactions, and consolidated divisional and subsidiary financial accounts on a timely and accurate basis for inclusion in internal and external financial statements

• Comply with the law, The way we work and other Rio Tinto policies and standards;

• Conduct business with integrity;

• Undertake compliance training in accordance with requirements; and

• Report compliance concerns, issues and incidents.

  About you

  To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree or above, majored in marketing, economics, finance, geosciences or engineering,

• Highly developed interpersonal skills,

• Good at relationship management,

• Sense of innovation on new approaches,

• Quick thinking on determining tasks and resources,

• Skills in handling rapidly changing business environment and readily challenges assumptions,

• Ability to work to deadlines and follow through on commitments,

• Ability to relate to and liaise with a diverse range of people,

• Understanding of Steel Industry, mining and/or international shipping industry is preferred; Experience in L/C and cargo/scheduling handling is a plus,

• Good interpersonal skills

• Proficient skills in: Excel, Word and PowerPoint

• Fluent in English and Mandarin.
