DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, process improvements and support of facility management relative to manufacturing. Tasks include, but are not limited to, utilization of CAD in the design of fixtures and templates, QAD Operating Systems knowledge for raw material procurement, process routing generation, support of facility management, CAM programs and continuous improvement teams throughout the shop. Projects relative to manufacturing support are assigned based on departmental and company objectives.


SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Ability to operate 3D CAD. Knowledge of manufacturing process flow is important. Knowledge or experience with CAM software for Lasers and Lathes a plus.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: A BS in Mechanical/Manufacturing engineering or 2 year technical degree and 2 years work experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment or equivalent of education and 6 years work experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
ANALYTICAL ABILITY AND CREATIVENESS REQUIRED: Work requires moderate to extensive analytical ability and creativeness. Supervision is provided for help and instruction. Sometimes must use own initiative in handling problems.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Routine contact with others.
OUTSIDE CONTACTS: Routine contact with outside people.
JUDGMENT: Work is of average to above average complexity with variations which require some moderately important decisions. Work is checked intermittently at the discretion of the supervisor. Errors in judgment may have a fairly serious effect on other work in the department, and/or adverse effect on work in other departments, and/or a very minor effect on relations outside the company.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OF OPERATIONS: Thorough knowledge of all the work of a small department or large section.


PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate standing or walking (30%) or handling light weight materials (under 10 lbs.); or, almost continuous operation of standard office machines, such as PC’s or CAD.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Average conditions as found in a general office
RISK: Very slight possibility of injury
