Role Summary/Purpose
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager with work closely with the leadership and local teams to provide environmental, health and safety leadership and guidance to the China region.
Essential Responsibilities
• Plan and implement strategic EHS initiatives, identify operational best practices and effectively merge with GE EHS management systems. • Drive timely closure of open due diligence corrective actions. • Drive operational effectiveness for EHS programs, including continuous improvement in procedures and tools to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, effective utilization of GE best practices, and enhanced productivity. • Rigorously lead/drive EHS operationalization and accountability to all employees. • Enable business growth by leading risk mitigation and EHS productivity enhancements. • Work collaboratively with local teams to build a strong EHS culture. Mentor and guide EHS professionals to implement EHS management systems and develop high performing, employee led EHS teams: ergonomics, safety and emergency response teams. • Maintain EHS expertise to provide technical and regulatory support to the operations team. • Perform program reviews and EHS assessments and drive closure of corrective actions. • Assist in developing EHS excellence programs: VPP, global star, EHS Excellence as needed. • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local team, community, customers and regulators. • Implementing HSE management system, policies, plans and procedures • Ensuring all site personnel and contractors comply with Company safety policies, procedures, standards, and statutory requirements • Promoting HSE awareness, accountability and responsibility, encouraging a safe working culture amongst site personnel • Preparing and communicating regular reports on HSE systems and performance using company business systems and maintaining required documentation and records. • Facilitating and educating line management and workforce personnel in the application of required procedures, policies and site conduct • Coordinating emergency response activities. • Leading and participating in incident investigations, inspections and audits and assisting in the development of effective corrective actions. Participate in work area inspections • Assisting in identifying HSE training (and awareness) needs. • Coordinating the development of HSE training systems and conducting training courses including induction training of site personnel, contractors and visitors on HSE responsibilities • Developing and maintaining risk registers. • Observing and reporting on risk assessments and implementation of controls. • Preparing and maintaining all relevant HSE documentation and records.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, engineering, or related technical degree• 10+ years EHS experience in a professional EHS role.• Excellent oral and written communication skills.• Strong knowledge of applicable compliance regulations and industry practices.• A Tertiary Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental qualification and/ or substantial experience in similar roles• Experience in developing, implementing and auditing of HSE Management Systems• Extensive knowledge of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation• Experience in incident investigations, inspections and audits• The ability to utilize investigative tools and processes (ICAM training)• Knowledge of Risk Management Processes including risk identification and hazard analysis.• Awareness of behavioral based safety programs and systems• A sound knowledge of the underground coal mining industry and manufacturing industry and the HSE issues that relate to both industries.
Desired Characteristics
