Dr. Wang’s laboratory in Neuroscience at XJTLU are dedicated for developing safe, effective drugs with a strong emphasis on migraine and epilepsy research using multidisciplinary approaches in advanced imaging, electrophysiology, cellular and molecular biology. Current research programmes aim to address pathogenesis and pharmacology of migraine and epilepsy by investigating roles of specific neurotransmitter receptors and ion channels in cortical spreading depression that is associated with migraine, epilepsy and stroke. We are looking for one highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant (RA) to manage the activities of Dr. Wang’s Laboratories on a day-to-day basis so that researchers obtain high quality experimental data in a timely manner.

The prime objectives of the job are:
1.Liaising with researchers to discuss their requirements to ensure full function of laboratories
2.Managing order of small items and consumables
3.Archiving documents, samples and associated information on them
4.Acting as personal assistant of the line manager
5.Undertake administration in relation to specified research/knowledge transfer.
6. Working to appropriate targets as set by the designated supervisor to secure a high quality research for the group
7.Taking day-to-day responsibility for the co-ordination of specific research projects
8.Carrying out allocated experiments where appropriate using imaging, electrophysiology and cellular and molecular biology approaches.
9. To assist in the maintenance and repairing of instrumentation and equipment in the department laboratories.
10. To liaise with faculty/University staff and bodies outside to resolve problems.
11. Assistance with the preparation of new research funding applications and of research publications.

Personal Requirements

Qualifications:

Master Degree in a life science or a life science related field.
Ability to communicate in English and Chinese

Preferred knowledge, skills and experience
1.Experience in laboratory management
2.Ability to handle animals and/or animal tissues
3.Knowledge in neuroscience
4.Experience in electrophysiology and neurobiology techniques
5.Ability to speak and write in English with clarity and be able to communicate effectively with colleagues
6.Able to work under pressure and to multi-task
7.Ability to collate information meticulously
8.Ability to solve complex problems
