Description: Engineering Manager – MTD Chongqing
Department: MTD Engine Development Group
 
Job Purpose: Plans, organizes, and directs engineering at MTD Chongqing Office at Supplier Site Operations. Provides direction on design and development, commercialization, and quality activities to improve, modify, or develop new engines. Provides overall direction including policies, procedures, general strategies, planning and motivation while exhibiting leadership and administrative support to ensure a positive work environment
Reports to: Executive Vice President of Powertrain Development
Subordinates: MTD Chongqing Project Engineers
Essential Job Duties:
Develops project objectives by reviewing Engine Development project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
Provides liaison to CPC engine development team, engine procurement/strategy team, product development team, and PMMs
Manages on site staffing, budgets, and projects to support the business
Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements. Performing the liaison activities between MTD Sites, MTD Chongqing, and the Supplier Site operations.
Clarify project specifications by working with both MTD operations and with the Supplier operations to determine what is needed and what can be achieved.
Work with Supplier testing department to confirm product performance. Follow and direct the required testing.
Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
Maintains Engine development ongoing schedule by tracking it on a weekly basis
Design new components and assemblies using Unigraphics CAD
Analyze test data and make/recommends design modifications if necessary
Must be capable of managing subsystems independently
Provide liaison engineering to overseas suppliers, all MTD sites, and MTD office at supplier site
Success will be measured through quality of work, time to production, and warranty and customer satisfaction data.
Must interface with the corporate quality group and the existing quality group at the supplier using the onsite quality team
Must interface with the corporate engineering group and the existing quality group at the supplier using the onsite product engineering team
Skills/Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree major in Engineering
Good communication skill, can communicate in technical detail.
Must have 10 years’ experience in new product development
Must have engine development back ground must have demonstrated the experience of taking an engine design from a clean piece of paper to finished engine on the production
Demonstrated experience in problem solving using scientific methods
Must be able to communicate technical information in an appropriate manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple, high priority projects at various stages of development.
Must be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English with cross functional teams, locally and internationally
Must be able to identify root cause to solve complex problems and direct others in problem resolution.
Must have experience with operation of exhaust emission equipment. Also must have a thorough knowledge of the current and future worldwide exhaust emission regulation that effect of product line.

Experience/Educational Requirements:
10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering
At least 5 experience managing technical people in a cross cultural setting
Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering
3-D CAD (NX Preferred)
Flawless communication skills (written and verbal) in English and Chinese (local Chinese dialect preferred)
Additional requirements: Design Skills, Project Management, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement, Technical Understanding, Documentation Skills, CAD, Microsoft office software.
