Position Overview:
The Director of Study Abroad is responsible for developing, overseeing and implementing of the DKU undergraduate Study Abroad Program including the policy and process. The individual will work to deepen the students' academic experience through curricular integration of international opportunities, and work closely with DKU registrar, Duke registrar and Office of Student Advising in making sure that students’ study abroad course plan matches well with student's academic track requirement and interest.

Dean of Undergraduate Education

Essential Duties:
1. Work closely with Office of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Office of Dean of Undergraduate Education, DKU Registrar Office, Duke Registrar Office, Office of Student Advising, DKU Program Office at Duke to develop and implement Study Abroad plan that directly aligns with the university’s academic objectives; develop and implement a comprehensive approach for study abroad programming;
2. Generates both short and long term strategies for study abroad;
3. Provide support to help determine what impact a proposed study abroad course plan will have upon the student’s academic requirements for graduation and for major and distribution requirements;
4. Provides expert academic counseling to students on study abroad opportunities (both during regular semester and summer). Makes final determination of suitability of courses for such credit;
5. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of study abroad opportunities for DKU students and seeks to create new opportunities;
6. Develops overall program assessment criteria including risk management assessment and conducts periodic reviews of all study abroad programs. Analyzes and evaluates results to inform long and short term strategic planning. Recommends and implements programmatic changes as necessary;
7. Maintains data related to study abroad and assists in the development and dissemination of quantitative and qualitative reports. Assists in all aspects of maintenance and development for web resources related to study abroad;
8. Coordinates logistics with the international partners; oversees student visa compliance; oversees and conducts pre-departure orientations; serves as the main contact for the international program office;
9. Performs other work duties as assigned;
10. University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.


Required Qualifications:
? Master's degree; supplemented with at least two (2) years related work experience;
? Desired experience includes several years in international education or study abroad program administration in a college or university setting plus time spent working, studying or living in a foreign country. Teaching and/or administrative experience at the college or university level is desirable.
? Demonstrated ability to provide effective short-term and long-term vision and leadership in a changing higher education environment;
? Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and writing) and the demonstrated ability to work in cooperative ways with diverse populations of faculty, students, staff, parents, and international partners;
? Advising and counseling skills and excellent people skills;
? Ability to demonstrate self-direction, motivation, and work in a team setting;
