Reporting to China engineering director, the chosen candidate will provide direction and system expertise for engineering team to develop next-generation products to realize TE China business growth objectives. The successful candidate will work very closely with customer facing team such as marketing and PM to lead key customer engineering engagement activities through Technology Day or Workshop to identify and act on new business opportunities related to new technologies or product solutions.

Technical Requirement:
? In-depth knowledge in electromechanical component or system design, manufacturing and/or its application
? Good understanding of system architecture and customer application in the general Industrial application environment such as robotics, motion and drives, power distribution, control cabinet, intelligent building equipment and high-speed industrial communications.
? Be articulate in translating customer's high level system or product abstract to a set of executable engineering design objectives

Experience & Education Required
? Minimum 10-year R&D experience with minimum of 5-year system engineering design or architecting experience in Industrial or related fields
? Minimum of a MS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Ph.D. is preferred;
? Excellent communications skill to interact with a multi-functional global team
? Knowledge of interconnect design and/or manufacturing is a plus
? Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC

Responsibility
? Lead engineering engagement for Industrial key customers through technology day or other technology exchange forum to understand their system challenges and determine their (evolving) needs;
? Translate customers' requirement at (sub-) system level into technical solution proposals and generate engineering project opportunities
? Work with product engineering team to refine proposed solutions based on customer's cost-benefit analysis and feasibility study to ensure they are technical feasible and can be manufactured efficiently
? Drive key customer engineering engagement activities such as Technology Day and follow through on business opportunity leads until a formal engineering project is established in TE's internal system
? Keep the right balance between system requirement and engineering design feasibility by choosing the best tradeoff among functionality, performance and cost
? Provide overview of the system and its context for the product engineering team to help make sensible specification and local design decisions.
? Innovate on system concepts that solve customer problems with elegance and simplicity and help maintain the integrity of designs goals and solutions during the project
? Actively participate in and contribute to industries' standards body activities; provide guidance on technology trend, anticipate and define near-future product requirement as a result of regulatory and technology evolution
? Build credibility and trust in the engineering community of our key customers
? Build organizational knowledge and expertise on Industrial related systems
? Drive new product design optimized at system level that maximizes customer values in terms of total (sub-) system BOM cost, features/performance, manufacturability and usability
Deliverables
? Customer unmet needs at system and/or application level
? System functional and performance spec the underlying interconnect sub-system, module or a product along with rest of the system must deliver
? Product design plan to realize system functional requirement through innovative interconnect system design
? Verification plan on how the interconnect product is tested in the customer system for targeted system and functional performance
? Technology roadmap consistent with market/industry trend and customer's future needs

KPIs
1. Design and lead key customer engagement event on a quarterly basis
2. Deliver minimum 2 high-impact engineering projects as a result of the customer engagement
3. Refresh integrated technology roadmap for China every 6 months
