Instructional Coordinator for Natural Science Intro Teaching Lab

Position Overview:
We are seeking applications to three Instructional Coordinators for natural science intro lab courses in biology, chemistry and physics (one position in each area). The instructional coordinator is responsible for setting up teaching labs, preparing for various labs and manuals, coordinating day-to-day operation of the intro teaching labs, and providing certain instructional support to faculty members such as classroom demonstrations, and other tasks as assigned by faculty members and/or by the natural science divisional dean.

Reports to:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of a faculty leader or a lab manager to someone to be assigned by the natural science divisional dean or by the office of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Essential Duties:
Orders all laboratory equipment, reagents and other materials and supplies to help to set up the intro teaching labs;
Maintains good inventory of all the teaching lab equipment, and keeps detailed records;
Work with faculty on manuals and instruction for various labs; maintain up-to-date information on the webpage;
Prepares the teaching lab and equipment operation SOP;
Checks out equipment and be responsible for keeping lab equipment, supplies and materials in good order, safely and securely;
Obtains or prepares specimens, standard reagents, dyes, solutions and any other required materials for the labs;
Trains student to follow appropriate procedures for use and for safe handling of equipment and materials;
Coordinates chemical spill response as specified in related Materials Safety Data Sheet for biology and chemistry teaching labs;
Observes and diagnoses areas where students find difficult and challenging in their lab projects and assists students to work through their lab projects;
Discusses problem areas with students and provides explanation, clarification, reference materials or examples;
Other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in either biology, chemistry or physics is required, and master degree is preferred;
Two years of working experience in the specialty area is required;
Work requires good organizational skills and considerable knowledge of the specific subject matter taught, as well as knowledge of applicable rules, regulations and procedures;
Good communication and problem solving skills are required;
Work requires knowledge of related equipment, tools, curriculum and instructional methods;
Being bilingual in both Chinese and English will be a major plus;
Working experience and knowledge about working with body fluids, disease organisms, certain equipment, hazardous materials in biology and/or in chemistry labs following the best practice and protocols. 举报 分享
