Engineer III, Automation Manufacturing Technology:
Software Algorithm Design and Programming
Position Location: Shanghai, China
Position Overview
TE Connectivity (TE) has an opportunity for an Automation Manufacturing Technology (AMT) software professional with strong technical and team working capabilities in establishing next generation automation platforms in a leading electrical component manufacturing company. The individual shall be a software expert to deep dive into and to develop the next generation manufacturing technologies of Mass-customized Automation, with focus of software development for Machine Vision and Digital Instrumentation. Deep knowledge in machine vision, industrial camera systems, vision system programming at the pixel level, and digital instrumentation is part of the desired technical capabilities.
This is a rare opportunity to join a high performing organization in a new global role, reporting to AMT Senior Manager, as part of the Global Operations team. This role will be a focal point of TE global manufacturing technical expertise on current leading edge and next generation automation manufacturing technologies. This position will have the responsibility for establishing next generation Mass-customized Automation platforms at various TE manufacturing sites worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Innovate and develop the next generation customized low cost machine vision software and standards for TE manufacturing processes
2. Innovate and develop the Digital Instrumentation software for machine diagnosis and prognostic for TE manufacturing processes
3. Develop application software for Raspberry Pi and apps for iOS and Android systems for manufacturing processes monitoring and management
4. Model and simulate the industrial system, like the automation system using discrete event simulation (DES) tools like SIMIO, and give recommendations for optimized system performance, like machine utilization rate, throughput, yield rate etc.
5. Use mathematical formulas and tools to calculate and analyze the system performance parameters like throughput, machine utilization rate, OEE etc. Optimize the system according to the analyzation results
6. Perform dynamic path planning and generate best logistics for the AIVs (Automated Intelligent Vehicles) using optimization methods
7. Significant involvement in related automation opportunities allowing for the seamless transition of new products to assembly facilities
8. Working with intellectual property (IP) managers and legal teams to innovate and to strengthen TE IP strategies and portfolios in automation manufacturing technology
Key Requirements:
1. A strong technically oriented engineer with clearly demonstrated experience and a track record of software development for machine vision and deploying new machine vision technologies
2. Very solid mathematical background, in particular, in vector operations and matrix operations
3. Solid background in statistics for manufacturing system analysis
4. Know-how in Industrial and System Engineering fundamental, and the performance parameters of the industrial manufacturing systems
5. Experienced in both smart camera programming like Cognex, Keyence etc. and general camera programming with C, VC++ etc.
6. Experienced in CCD cameras, lighting selection and system configuration for different application cases. Strong ability of analyzing problems and matching with machine vision system configuration
7. Programming experience for Raspberry Pi, and apps development for iOS or Android system is preferred
8. At least 5 years, for Bachelor degree, or 2 years for Master degree, technical experiences in manufacturing automation with a detailed knowledge of machine vision technologies and digital instrumentation technologies
9. Excellent commercial and business acumen with deep experience in analyzing current technologies and capabilities on the market
10. Ability to communicate technical ideas, vision and inspire people at every level to deliver and execute the manufacturing technology
Minimum Professional Background Desired:
1. A demonstrated track record of successfully and effectively driving step change in today’s manufacturing through technological improvements
2. Solid mathematical background, in particular, in vector operations and matrix operations. Solid background in statistics
3. At least two years’ experience in pixel level machine vision programming
4. Familiar with smart camera programming, C, VC++, C#, and/or Python programming language
5. Deep know how of Digital Instrumentation system and capable of developing the needed software functionalities using C, VC++ etc.
6. Familiar with apps programming for iOS, Android and Raspberry Pi
7. Willingness to travel as necessary with significant presence in China and other regions
8. Advanced engineering degree (MS/ME/PhD) strongly preferred
