Novo Nordisk wants to conduct diabetes research activities in China and expand its network to the scientific community. For these purposes, a new position is open for a highly qualified and motivated scientist/manager with expertise within diabetes/obesity/diabetic complication biology who plans to advance a career in China.

Diabetes Research China (DRC) is part of NNRCC located in Beijing. DRC is responsible for support of diabetes, obesity and diabetic complication research projects in the discovery phase. Currently, DRC is composed of four departments, Diabetes Protein Engineering, Diabetes Biology and Pharmacology, Histology, and Pharmacology & Facility. Diabetes Biology and Pharmacology contains two teams, Team Biology and Team Rodent Pharmacology. Altogether, we are a highly motivated and productive team with high standards for our deliveries into the projects. Main Tasks:
Team Biology in the department of Diabetes Biology and Pharmacology currently has 6 PhD scientists and 10 research associates, covering in vitro biology, bio-analysis, and bio-informatics at DRC. The team leader (you) will lead Team Biology and take responsibility in further developing the in vitro biology and bio-analysis competency at DRC. You will lead the team to plan and conduct in vitro and ex vivo studies, set-up and develop models and assays, dissect MOA within the area of diabetes, obesity and/or diabetic complications (diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy). You and the scientists in your team will be involved in cross-functional project teams with colleagues from many different scientific backgrounds both in China and in Denmark, serve as biology representatives in research projects and responsible for defining the direction of biology, seeking influence based on the data generated, and keeping up to date with the scientific literature. You as the team leader will ensure the effectiveness of project support and progress, operation, compliance, and people development in your team. Our center is growing rapidly and you will be expected to impact the development of our expertise area and represent it in the department and projects. Furthermore, you will be expected to leverage the innovation culture, mentor colleagues, and promote the collaboration culture both internally and globally.

You will be referring directly to the department head and your main internal contacts in your daily work will be scientist colleagues, research associates, project members, and managers both in Beijing and in Denmark. Furthermore, developing and maintaining a strong external network is also going to be an important part of your work.

You will be part of a team in a highly dynamic and challenging environment within the Novo Nordisk Diabetes Research Unit.
Qualifications:
· Ph.D. within biological sciences.
· Excellent and broad scientific background with proved expertise in diabetes, obesity and/or diabetic complication. Good understanding of diabetic nephropathy or retinopathy biology is a plus.
· Minimum 5 years working experience with in vitro/ex vivo within diabetes biology in industry. Track record for innovation.
· Minimum 2 years of people management experience with good leadership potential.

You need to have good communication and collaboration skills as you will play a key role in representing your expertise area in global project teams and towards colleagues at the other research sites. You need to have leadership strength as you will lead and build a fast growing team. You are flexible, open to new ideas, ambitious, innovative and result oriented. You have a lot of responsibility with a high degree of impact in the projects. You are able to meet deadlines and keep overview. Furthermore, you are fluent in English.

Title and compensation will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and based on benchmark in China.
