Novo Nordisk wants to conduct diabetes research activities in China and expand its network to the scientific community. For these purposes, a new position is open for a highly qualified and motivated scientist within protein chemistry who plans to advance a career in China.

Department of Diabetes Protein Engineering is part of Novo Nordisk Research Centre China (NNRCC) as an integrated part of Novo Nordisk’s R&D organization and located in Beijing. The department is responsible for support of diabetes and obesity research projects in the discovery phase. Currently, the department consist of 8 scientists, 11 research assistants and a Department Director. We are a highly motivated and productive team with high standards for our deliveries into the projects and an increasing focus on flexible processes in our daily work. We work with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment and value a high team spirit, good communication and dynamic collaboration between both scientists and technicians. The department is expected to grow over the next years, which leads to excellent opportunities for individual development for our scientists.



Challenges
You will be involved in cross-functional project teams with colleagues from many different scientific backgrounds both in China and at our head quarters in Denmark. You will contribute to several early stage projects with expertise within protein chemistry, especially protein purification and characterization.

You will be referring directly to the Department Director and your main internal contacts will be scientist colleagues, technicians and project members and managers both in Beijing and in Denmark. Furthermore, developing and maintaining a strong external network is also going to be an important part of your work.
You will be part of a team in a highly dynamic and challenging environment within the Diabetes Research Unit.
Your tasks will include, but not be limited to
· Purify and characterize various proteins to support therapeutic protein drug R&D
· Analyze data from experiments, write summaries, and prepare presentations
· Manage projects in a diverse team environment
· Supervise Junior staffs
Furthermore, you will be expected to lead the implementation of new technologies within protein and peptide purification and characterization as needed.


Qualifications
· You hold a Ph.D. in protein chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry or related discipline with additional postdoctoral training within above mentioned disciplines.
· In-depth understanding of the biochemical and biophysical properties of proteins and peptides
· A thorough understanding and solid hands-on experience on protein engineering, inclusion body refolding, protein purification and characterization.
· You have an excellent track record of original research.
· Experience from a biotech/pharmaceutical R&D setting with focus on therapeutic protein/petides and some patent experience is considered an advantage.
· You are flexible, open to new ideas, ambitious, innovative; result oriented and have a good sense of humour.
· You have authority and thrive in an environment with individual responsibility and a high degree of personal impact in the projects but at the same time you are good at collaborating in teams.
· You are good at communicating, able to meet deadlines and keep an overview.
· You are fluent in English.
