Job Summary
The Linux System Adinistrator III position will be responsible for maintaining Linux systems infrastructure, platform and services. This position will be part of a 24x7 operations environment that supports a world-wide enterprise.
Essential Functions
Work independently to support Linux servers and workstations
Assist with backup and recovery procedures.
Maintain Linux services.
Install and assist with administering mission-critical software such as databases and web application servers.
Perform installation and troubleshooting of disks, network-interface cards, memory modules, and CPUs, and other infrastructure.
Assist with customization and improvements of configuration management tools.
Monitor system logs and activities.
Provide scripting/programming support.
Participate in a 24 x 7 on-call rotation
Maintain converged infrastructure.
Additional Job Functions
Install and assist with administering mission-critical software such as databases and web application servers (i.e., fundamental Oracle and WebLogic/Apache/Tomcat administration).
Assist with security audit and compliance tasks.
Required Qualifications/ Skills
2+ years experience working with Linux.
2+ years working with VMWare
Shell scripting skills.
Solid understanding of networking concepts: the OSI model, TCP, IP, routing, firewalls, load balancers.
Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Storage concepts including iSCSI and LVM.
Understanding of multi-tiered applications and the J2EE Java development paradigm.
Dsired Qualifications/Skills
Experience with Splunk
Experience with Puppet
Experience with Avamar and Data Domain backup software.
Experience with Windows servers.
Experience with vCOPS
Experience with Infoblox
Experience with AWS services and compute.
Experience with F5/NetScaler or other load balancers
Essential Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Machines Typically Operated
Compute Devices, Network Devices, Storage Devices, Backup Devices
Typical Environmental Conditions
The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This is a typical office or administrative environment.
Must be willing to travel
