Position Summary
NYU Shanghai is looking for several graduate research assistants to work on a new qualitative project on social relationships (friendship and romantic relationship) of Chinese emerging adults, funded by NYU-ECNU Institute of Social Development at NYU Shanghai. The research assistants will work closely with NYU Shanghai psychology faculty members (Dr. Xuan Li and Dr. Lixian Cui) and help with literature review, data collection, data analysis, and production of research publications.

The applicant will ideally be someone with a strong background and research interests in developmental psychology and China studies, familiar with qualitative methods (e.g. semi-structured interview, content analysis), have good social skills, and fluent in English. Prior research experiences collecting and analyzing interview data are highly desirable. The research assistants will learn directly from Professors Li and Cui, gain rich research experience in cutting edge areas of developmental psychology, and gain work experience in a globalized higher education institution, to name a few.


Responsibilities
- Review and summarize literature in both Chinese and English
- Prepare project materials for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval
- Recruit research participants and conduct semi-structure interviews
- Organize and analyze qualitative data
- Prepare submissions for conferences and journal articles


Qualification
- Graduate student with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in psychology (might consider excellent senior undergraduates and students in related disciplines such as education, sociology, anthropology or cultural studies);
- Completion of courses “Introduction to Psychology” and/or “Developmental Psychology” highly preferred;
- Experience of working on independent research projects or as research assistant highly preferred;
- Training and experiences with qualitative data highly preferred;
- Time requirement: Around 2017.03-2017.12. 10-15 hours per week at either Pudong Campus of NYU Shanghai or at ECNU; flexible hours and locations may be required during the data collection stage (2017.03-2017.06). Research assistants also need to attend a few meetings in 2016.12-2017.02 prior to data collection, and join regular group meetings during the data collection stage and data analysis stage.
