We are looking for a China-based reporter who will be a key editorial representative within our Asia team, generating news and enterprise coverage as well as forming and leveraging relationships throughout the region.

The China reporter is an experienced business and/or financial journalist with knowledge about international maritime industry so as to be able to produce timely and authoritative coverage of important developments throughout China, help build data resources, and assist in developing substantive and quality event programme content. This reporter is expected to become a recognisable figure with a high profile, known and with access to senior leaders throughout the industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

?Contribute 2-3 daily news stories for the website, including coverage of breaking news such as M&A activity, ship orders and sales, port volume analysis, financial developments, freight rate trends, and regulatory actions that pertain to shipowning and ship operating interests throughout Asia. These stories should be based on original themes including bona-fide ‘scoops’ as well as analysis of proprietary and non-proprietary data.
?Nurture quality, senior-level relationships with shipowners, regulators and top executives of shipping lines, forwarders, terminals, port authorities and shipyards based throughout Asia, leveraging these contacts for story background, quotes, conference programme ideas and speaking roles.
?Proactively seek out industry data that the can be collected, visualised online and used to support regular coverage.
?Support creation of daily online stories even if not available to write specific stories
?Write special section and occasional cover stories for print, understanding that print stories need to be developed simultaneously as online content packages.
?Contribute to the commercial strategy using strong knowledge of customers, markets and competitors
?Regularly post content updates, observations and links on Twitter and LinkedIn, seek to build a following on those social networks.


REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES:
?Demonstrated experience and aptitude for covering and writing about business in an authoritative way for a knowledgeable audience.
?Understanding of shipping markets within China and how developments within the country will impact on the wider shipping industry.
?An ability to cultivate sources and contacts to bring original news and content to IHS Fairplay.com and its related platforms.
?Flexibility in writing for online and print
?Comfort with using data for analysis and development of stories.
 
NECESSARY EXPERIENCE:
?Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a similar field of study
?5-7 years relevant experience with at least two years’ experience based in China, editing and writing business and financial news in a deadline environment for both online and print publications
?Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese
?Experience with using social media to drive traffic to web content, engage with readers and build contacts in an industry sector
?Ability to make reasoned, dependable decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment.
?Knowledge of AP Style
?Experience of content management systems
?Knowledge of SEO techniques and strategies an advantage
?A keen interest in business reporting, the creativity to put that interest to use in a dynamic publishing business covering global industries and a curiosity to drive in-depth learning and knowledge about the industry and the global economy. 举报 分享
