Responsibilities:
The successful individual will make significant contributions in many areas, including the following:
Continuously explore options to offer further cost savings on existing product lines. These savings may be in the area of component selection (alternate components), or production process improvement.
In collaboration with other FE engineering team members complete stand alone design projects
Work with our contract manufacturers to solicit and provide technical feedback in Design For Manufacturability (DFM), Design For Testability (DFT), and Design For Assembly (DFA) in their review of new electronic designs, keeping the capabilities of our contract manufacturers in mind.
Have the ability to interface between a U.S.-based engineering team and our contract manufacturers to help solve new product introduction and manufacturing issues, yields, etc.
Investigate and validate that suggested alternate electrical components from Chinese vendors meet the datasheet needs of, and operate correctly in our products through datasheet analysis, electrical testing and validation, and report generation.
Ensure that the test fixtures used by our contract manufacturers are designed, built, and verified to operate reliably and with proper electrical engineering methods/materials.
Have the ability and knowledge to diagnose production issues with electronic products and product test fixtures.
Act as the Electrical Engineering liaison with Chinese contract manufacturers and suppliers.
Follow standard practices, procedures and workflows within iRobot Corporation’s Electrical Engineering and business processes.

Requirements:
Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, soldering irons, and other common electrical engineering tools
Five years+ experience designing electronic products for high-volume, automated assembly and testing
Working knowledge of a schematic capture tool for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred
Ability to travel frequently within China to visit component suppliers and manufacturers
Ability to obtain a U.S. visa and to travel to the U.S. approximately 3 times per year, 1-3 weeks per trip
Fluent communication in Mandarin & English, both written & spoken
Altium Designer schematic/layout design experience for PCBs
LabView and Python experience
High-level of attention to electrical details
Demonstrated success working on multiple, concurrent projects

Based in Shenzhen, China, this person will report to the Far East Engineering Manager and will be supported by Electrical Engineering team based in the United States.
