Nature Communications is the world’s leading multidisciplinary Open Access journal, publishing high-quality research from across the natural sciences. Since its launch in 2010, the journal has grown rapidly and in 2015 published over 3,000 papers.

To help us to build on the success of this journal, we are seeking Team Managers to lead our subject-based editorial teams. Ideal candidates will have a PhD (or equivalent), and preferably postdoctoral experience in an area of the life sciences. Editorial experience is essential as the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of a team of Nature Communications editors. Each team brings together editors located in any of our three offices (London, New York and Shanghai).

Reporting to the Chief Life Sciences Editor, the successful candidates will work closely with the editors in their teams on all aspects of the editorial process. They will also play an important role in determining the representation in the journal of their own fields, and those of their team members, through the appropriate selection of manuscripts. This role will also entail significant liaison with the scientific community, the other Nature Communications teams, and Nature Research Chief Editors.

This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science are a prerequisite. The successful candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The salary and benefits will be competitive, reflecting the critical importance and responsibilities of this role.

These full-time roles are offered either on a permanent basis or a fixed-term basis for 12 months to cover maternity leave. They can be located in our London, New York or Shanghai offices. Applicants for the London or New York offices must be able to demonstrate the right to live and work in the UK or USA respectively in order to be considered for the position.

Any offer of employment in the Shanghai office will be contingent on the necessary work permits for China being granted (the Company will provide reasonable assistance with the necessary application process in this respect).
