Position Summary

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for reviewing product drawings for manufacturing feasibility and recommends design changes as required for compliance with manufacturing capabilities, cost and product performance. Though not a supervisory position, the Tooling Engineer will provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers and departments on technical matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers and departments on technical matters.

· Reviews product drawings for manufacturing feasibility and recommends design changes as required for compliance with manufacturing capabilities, cost and product performance.

· Maintains a constant awareness of the capabilities of the various companies supplying tooling to the division and recommends those firms to be used for quoting the building tools.

· Reviews with tooling sources, the necessary processing and design for each new tool to assure optimum performance characteristics with respect to production capability, product design conformance, tool durability, tool maintenance costs, noise control factors, safety and manufacturing methods.

· Reviews construction progress at the various tooling sources to assure conformance to required quality standards and time schedules, and resolves, through consultation with tool source management, any engineering difficulties or deviations from anticipated work schedules which may occur.

· Maintain a detailed tool status report on tooling and provides a continual update of this information to immediate supervision.

· Estimates the cost and/or delay in tooling deliveries resulting from engineering changes and advises appropriate divisional personnel.

· Submits for approval, sample parts from new/and/or revised tooling and reviews product engineering disposition to determine corrective action required when necessary.

· Evaluates tooling problems occurring at the various plant locations on request, and consults with the necessary divisional personnel as to the proper corrective action to be taken.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Strong bias for action.

· Excellent organizational skills.

· Hands-on experience in casting mold, injection mold and stampings dies.

· Good communication skills.
